headlight tech

H9 on the left (right side of vehicle) H11 on the other side. Is it the H9 any brighter? Hard to tell. :homer:

Well no shit you can't tell the difference in daylight ya fuckin tard.

There is a huge difference in output between h9 and h11.
I’m expecting a day-vs-night blinding difference, goddammit.

Those with LEDs, how do they do inn snow and ice? My aux lights ice up quick, don't think I'd want them for mains without a heating element.

I don't know, I can't see past the stupid FAPtor grill :flipoff2:

Although, it's not quite as gay the OOOO grills :homer:

How much are 4 new bulbs? the low beam is still normal and low, just brighter?

Everything ices up after a while, even incandescent. I haven't had an issue even on 5 hour driving stints over the mountains but I keep my distance from spray too so that helps tremendously.

I always laughed at guys driving f150s with phony raptor grilles then I ended up buying a pickup with a phony raptor grille. Nothing is worse than the DOOD grilles though.

It was $30 for a pair of H9s. The plastic connector on the bulb has an extra tang that keeps the pigtail from plugging in but it’s no big deal to shave it off. I didn’t change the high beams, I didn’t have a problem with them but low beam is definitely brighter now.

I'm sure you can find someone to trade for a sport grill:flipoff2:

Did you put the old ones in the fog lights?

I don't really use them, as I think it's retarded to just have them on all the time as most people do. But in fog or heavy snow, they're nice.

In case your headlights are fogged up, I've had very good luck with the 3m ultra headlight restoration kit (link below). Just did the MIL's 2008 Lexus RX400h (originally was gonna do the FILs Tacoma, but MIL's car needed it worse, also side note, my in laws are cool so I don't mind helping them out). You need a GOOD corded drill and don't do it while the wind is blowing. Fawking sanding disks flying all over the fawking place.

Here is the results. Overall made a world of difference in night driving.

How long do they stay clear? I’ve never seen anyone have luck polishing their headlights and not have them cloud up again in short order.
because you've stripped the UV protection off the plastic.

You need to seal them again after.
get a UV lamp to cure them quickly.
buff after.
will last for years.

Well, if anyone was interested in these from the other thread DWT and I completely derailed :flipoff2: guy responded and they're $38/pr.

I think I'm going to give them a shot, fuck it :homer:

That's not a bad price if they work halfway decent.

Not at all, but I'd expect the typical water intrusion over time, and all the other issues with cheap lights.

My thing with off road lights though is that they all get fucked up eventually. I'd rather replace a $20 light than a $120 one. Nice thing about these is that if the amber low beam works as advertised, I can use them on the road too.

Anyone ever seen this discussion as to the reason LED bulbs are so blinding.

The reason is because they don't emit light in the same manner as a filiment in a bulb. It's pretty simple. They'll never be able to properly address this issues, they're fundamentally different.

The output of the lights shown after "fixing" are hideous... Maybe not glare everywhere but also nearly useless.

The flat cutoff is bad? vs light EVERYWHERE?

That's a huge improvement but still not ideal. LEDs and HIDs belong in projectors.

As for blinding.... IDGAF. Half the headlights coming at me these days are blinding me anyway. Fair is fair :flipoff2:
This
lights are horrible now

I drive my shitboxs' with high beams on all the time now, no one ever flashes me my lights are still dimmer than a so-called normal low beam now

So because everyone else is a fucktarded douche you should be too? :homer:
my highbeams aren't even what the new low beams are, they are low enough that people don't even notice it

if that is what it takes to be president of the douche club? then I am part of the club sir

I call it just trying to see, but you can insult me and my crap headlights if it makes you feel better :grinpimp:

Depends on the housing. Our 17 JKU lights would be unusable in 20 minutes in wet snow as the recessed light buckets collected snow and the bulb housing wasnt warm enough to melt it. On my Ram the snow just slides off the sides so I have yet to have icing issues. My lightbar mounted lower on the bumper would completely snow over as well, but it usually wasnt on because light bars in traffic are fucking retarded. That being said, the 5k color of most LED's is absolutely horrid in wet conditions overall. Really making me want to get some yellow aux lights mounted for the snowy and wet night drives.

Good job being part of the problem, you throw trash out your window just because you saw someone else do it too? :homer:
I save it in the footwell then throw it out all at once when I'm driving through somewhere that gave me a ticket. :flipoff2:
