Hard hats

You are dealing with regulatory agencies, when are they never not adding more bullshit. The more bullshit they add the more power and perceived importance they obtain.

Which magically requires a larger budget. And more staff.

Not sure if it's true, but I was told that manager/dept head/whatever pay is based somewhat on number of people underneath them. Hence always "needing" more people.

what are the chances that OSHA dials back the safety bs with the courts Chevron ruling?

the fact that 'safety' became an entire industry is a joke.
Close to zero. And it won't matter, the insurance companies will get ahead of it and start requiring it and it will end up de facto law anyway. Most the retarded shit in construction gets pushed by the insurance companies to the big GCs and it trickles down. OSHA generally isn't as bad as they're made out to be.

If this shit hits my industry, I'm just auctioning everything off.

It's a big enough pain with employees, customers, regulations.

This is truth. The OSHA rules are easy compared to the rules made to cover your ass when the insurance company starts asking questions.

Big regulation and big business go hand in hand. Make it more expensive to operate (regulation) and you make a larger barrier to entry (less business competition). Which ultimately makes it easier for big gov to control an industry. 'The Myth of Capitalism' is a decent read on that dynamic.

Dude I worked with fell some 30' and woke up dead. Was in fall protection gear, on a catwalk, and leaned out to clip in and missed. So likely if he didn't have that gear and wasn't trying to prevent a fall, he'd still be here.

I'm from the Government and here to help.

WSDOT has required them for the last year or so. Not in our industry yet, but we have word they are one the way. I'm still using an old MSA full brim with a 2014 date code:flipoff2:

I liked how hard hats back in the day would get soft in the summer heat. You could fold the fucker right in half.

Now how am I gonna rip it off when I need another drain pan because the one I dragged under the equipment wasn't big enough.

I've friggen hated hard hats as long as I've been required to wear them. I'm tall and the brim sticks out and blocks my view so I miss seeing the thing I need to duck under and jam my neck. Neck is still screwed from hitting something I would have seen or walked under climbing down a ladder on a ship. I found the fiberglass low profile ones and turned it backwards like the welders did but since I wasn't a welder, I almost got fired for that one. I watched an S hook used to hold cables fall off a submarine in production and smoke a guy right in the hard hat, it probably helped him out.

I moved outside to construction and had the full brim, but that thing is such a pile of uncomfortable shit that I started trying other ones. I started wearing a Petzl a long time ago because it was comfy and didn't make my forehead break out like a 13 year old from grinding all the dirt in. I guess people thought I looked silly, but screw em. It's nice not having to worry about it on a windy day and I can snap a little 3d printed brim on it if I need to. The lower profile is nice too and the one piece nature of it doesn't jar your neck as bad as the floating chassis ones do.

Same. I've never once had a hard hat stop me from getting injured but I've hit my head on shit I never would have or hurt my neck doing the same more times than I can count.

Same thing with safety glasses. I can't remember any time they've saved me from getting shit in my eye but I definitely remember all kinds of shit bouncing off them straight in my eye that otherwise would have just gone somewhere else. I'll wear a full face shield if I'm grinding shit or cutting eye level or higher but fuck wearing those stupid ass glasses just for the sake of wearing them.

some fragile sumbitches in here:laughing:
Pretty much, I don't like the new ones but they supplied it so it'll be on my cranium tomorrow at the O'Hare airport job.
The shit you put up with to make a living, in the grand scheme of things this is hardly a blip on the radar of shit that annoys me.

Mine. And no, you're not getting a picture of me wearing the goofy fucker :flipoff2:

Edit: Goofy long photo too.
I have the same, except in a more subdued color

I got tagged right in the glasses with a long ass support wire for a suspended ceiling. I stopped complaining about the glasses even though I probably would have seen it without them on. :homer::lmao:

I hear the next step after the chin strap is a little propeller on top
how dare you, the propeller is to counteract the 15lb weight of the helmet
it is as though you want people to have neck problems

what, just don't wear a bedpan on your head? UNPOSSIBLE

That was my complaint, I have not found a hard hat that doesn't feel like this

I did put ear muffs on mine, and that helped to feel like it was actually connected to my head

It's a mixed bag, isn't it? I've been around construction sites for a while, and while I get the need for safety gear, sometimes the rules can feel like overkill. Gloves, for instance—I get why they're necessary, but they can be such a hassle. Have you checked out MATO AND ASS For your PPE gear? They've got some decent options that might make the glove situation a bit more bearable. I'm new here on the forum, so just getting into the swing of things.
Go put your hard hat on and stick your head in a wood chipper:flipoff:
