gun shots at trump rally

Especially from a short barrel, it is loud and has a sharp sound to it.
From a short barrel it is absolutely loud as fuck. I think my .450bm is quieter.

Shooter looked like a 20” barrel, and it sounded to me no different than any typical ar I’ve seen on video, but I’m no audio nerd.

That can be as simple as different charges in the case, different bullet weights, different brand etc
Not uncommon to get a box of ammo that has a different charge between all 20 or however many's in the box

I'm referencing thousands of rounds on a military range.

I have a Mod 60 38 I feel the same way about!
I have a .308 pistol (Striker) that's pretty ridiculous.

Look, we're talking about sounds recorded on various phones in an open area, which we're playing back on a .25" phone speaker. What you hear watching a video online is certainly not what it sounded like at the event. Imagine looking at a new corvette. Now imagine having a 6 year old kid look at a new corvette, and describe it to you. That's the audio we're getting from these videos.

You'd think a bunch of people who've all at some point in their life gone to some sort of automotive event involving a bunch of open headers wouldn't need to be told that.

Not to mention those phones are designed to try and mitigate background noises... which is exactly what those gunshots are.

Phone mics are deceptive with how they record. I sound treated a vehicle and tried shooting video of the sound outside the car with the door closed vs sound outside the car with the door open.

It’s like there’s an auto level adjustment for the mic to normalize the audio volume. Sucks.

yeah, it bugs me. My jeep just got hit a few days ago and it was doing alright other than screwing up my exhaust causing a rattle. You can hear it when I accelerate. I tired taking a video of it this morning with my phone for insurance. It cut out 90% of the sound and all you can hear is engine noise even though it's annoying as hell in person.

Lead SWAT sharpshooter says group had ‘no communication’ with Secret Service prior to Trump rally attack

The lead sharpshooter of the SWAT Team working alongside the U.S. Secret Service during the attempted assassination against former President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the group had “no communication” with the agency until after the shooting.
In an interview with ABC News reporter Aaron Katersky, the local SWAT team from Beaver County, Pennsylvania, appeared on the outlet to discuss security concerns from the day around the assassination attempt against Trump. On the day of the rally, the SWAT group was positioned within the second floor of the building that shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks later used throughout the day to shoot from, with the lead sharp shooter noting that the SWAT team was supposed to receive a “face-to-face briefing” with the Secret Service agents when they had arrived on site; however, it never happened. “We were supposed to get a face-to-face briefing with the Secret Service snipers whenever they arrived, and that never happened. So I think that that was probably a pivotal point where I started thinking things were wrong because that never happened, and we had no communication with the Secret Service,” the lead SWAT sharpshooter said in the interview.
Katersky then pressed the lead sharpshooter of the team on his statement, asking if he had no communication from the Secret Service “at all on that Saturday.” The SWAT leader clarified that there was nothing from the agency “until after the shooting.”
“And by then —” Katersky jumped in before the SWAT sharpshooter said, “It was too late.”

Katersky continued to detail how the local SWAT team had identified Crooks as “suspicious” prior to the shooting, sending texts with a description and pictures of the 20-year-old. However, none of the information was relayed to Secret Service leaders due to the lack of communication between the groups.
The SWAT team had been assigned to the second floor of the American Glass Research Building 6 by the Secret Service and could only see into the crowd at the Trump rally. Katersky noted the team relayed that their lack of seeing Crooks was not due to the roof being sloped or hot weather but was at the fault of where they were placed by the Secret Service.
Following the attack against Trump, former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle received a wave of backlash as reports continued to lay out the multiple security lapses from the day. Despite the immediate calls for Cheatle to resign, she had remained firm in her position until July 23.
Cheatle handed in her resignation a day after her testimony before the House Oversight Committee, in which both Republican and Democratic lawmakers blasted the director for the security lapses during the event.
“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” Cheatle said in a staff email obtained by The Associated Press. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”

I'm an electronical idiot that kinda understands how this shit works, so maybe RocDoc or someone more qualified can explain. I'm pretty sure they (phones, tablets, etc) have some kind of built in compressor or limiter to keep audio volume level in check. That way you can have output volume stay about the same level regardless of input.

The compression effect degrades sound quality the higher the volume, so your phone might sound okay recording Jimi Hendrix amp from 200ft. but sounds like ass recording it at 20ft. Also, a brief spike/pop (like a gunshot) could get all kinds of fucked up by the pubic hair sized microphone, deer tick sized speaker, and built in Steve Jobs compression app. Add in "which way was the phone(mic) facing, how far from shooter, which direction did shots come from"... its an audio clusterfuck.

That is my understanding of phone based recording. I have an LG V30 phone that has a special audio circuit for DAC, where most phones use an app to do the DAC, but this is for playback only, it still has the compressed/limited recording like any other phone. Cracks me up when I see people post video from a live concert, yeah, it might remind you of what the song is supposed to sound like, but what you get sounds like the parents in a Charlie Brown cartoon.

Phone photo capability has come a long ways since the potato days, but audio recording still sucks.

Twin, Roc, thank you. :flipoff2: Pony Driveller you can go suck a microphone.:flipoff2: And I'l betyou a 6-month self ban your hearing is damaged, in addition to your brain.

Go to post 13, at 6:50 seconds.

Saw an interview with the local swat team and they said they had zero instruction or communication with the SS until after the shooting.
i am shocked that these guys are allowed to speak to the media given the ongoing investigation

Dems Want Congressman Who Tried to Take Away Trump’s Secret Service Protection to Investigate Assassination Attempt

idiots. the bill as i understand, it would stand down his SS detail in the event he was incarcerated. no need for SS if locked up.

Most "peg the needle" type shit is usually not actual noise that's that loud but shit interacting with the phone that's only locally that loud. Like think some ditz with a million keychains and the phone in the same hand fucking around with her startbucks latte and the keys and shit clattering off the phone. I'm not privy to the actual code Samsung and Apple write but based on prior experience this is going to have implications for how it gets handled before you even get into "oh that's background noise let me filter that for you" shit.

Im a firearm guy but that is indeed ridiculous. My old 303 stuff hurts my shoulder in an Enfield.

My buddy has some wierd Scottish pistol that looks like a cross between the 1700s and a space gun with interchangeable barrels and has a 30.06 available, Im assuming ill break my wrist if ever get to try it out.

I pocket dialed my GF from a Korn Concert one time
it was so loud that the brim of my hat was vibrating hard enought that I couldn't focus on it. It was also loud enough that I was wondering if I was going to get sick.
from the other end of the call, almost all the sound was gone, she couldn't hardly make the music out,

Also
As a county kid, I do know that bullets sound like bees when they go by you

and where is the Episteme Client List :grinpimp:
