Always seems weird seeing a Floyd Rose on a Paul. Is that the Alex Lifeson signature one?
It is. I am not a huge Les Paul shape fan (just too damned bulky for my taste).....but he a big RUSH fan, and this was his request. I haven't dicked with it at all, other than a quick run-through when it came in at the store. Now it will go in the closet until Santa day.

Good looking instrument. Floyd Rose IS odd to see on it, though. Looks even stranger when the arm is installed on it.

Here's a neat one that my friend Doug Doppler put together...started as a 1980 Flying V.

Custom pickguard to mount the single coils (neck is a Sustainiac) and it's got all sorts of weird push/pull options with the knobs. Bridge is a Floyd Rose retrofit that requires no routing and is made to mount on the existing studs for the old fixed bridge and tailpiece:

He's friends with a bunch of the higher ups at Gibson, and brought it to their booth at this past NAMM show...it got some attention and might turn into a special edition model in the future 🎸

Son's Christmas gift showed up:

Beautiful top on that one. I also don't really get all the hype for the Les Paul guitars, they are super popular, but just not my taste. A PRS will probably be as close as I will ever get to one.

Flying V guitars are another that I will probably never own. I usually play sitting down and they are not very comfortable for that. But I dig the headstock, especially with that big 3D emblem. I played a Warlock a long time ago with a Sustainiac, was pretty cool, but never owned one myself. Looked at a couple Schecter guitars with them, but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.

I did buy another Jackson, JS Warrior, used. I picked it up to experiment with some routing for a battery compartment and other mods that I really don't want to do with a more expensive guitar. So much for being out of my GAS phase...

This thing continues to be my go-to for just about everything. I love throwing the 6-way switch into coil split mode and confusing everyone by playing country & bluegrass with a 7-string, Floyd Rose Washburn, but it gets the job done and we get along well 🎸

My grandpa could play really well. He never had a lesson and could play by ear. Sadly I didn't inherit that talent, but I did inherit his banjo. I can't play for shit but I'm hoping I'll eventually get it

Found an Agile Les Paul copy locally. I've heard good things about them. It's a bolt on maple neck with a clear finish. I prefer the unpainted maple necks. Sounds pretty good through the Katana, I'll have to try it on the 6505MH soon.

An old HS buddy of mine was a pretty damn good player back in the day and it looks like he's gotten quite a bit better since. He just posted this

But, this is pretty much the end of my guitar buying for a long, long time.

I lied. I have bought 4 or 5 since my last post here with the ESP and Solar. I will have to take pics of the new ones and post them. I know I bought a cheap Jackson JS Warrior to try my hand at routing for a battery cavity, a Takamine acoustic, a Schecter, a PRS and another Jackson. I am out of room again, so something has to give.

My newer stuff:

Takamine GD30CE Electric Acoustic

Just wanted to try an acoustic again. Plays fine, just need to spend more time with it.

Bought this one because I wanted to try the Sustaniac pickup. It's cool, the harmonic function is a little useless since I have no problem doing harmonics normally, but it's fun to play with a lot of reverb and delay, making a bunch of weird sounding bullshit noises. It has it's uses, but isn't for everything. The EMG 57 is a bit more mellow than most of my guitars, but it grew on me. Carbon Fiber binding looks cool.

I bought this cheap so if I fucked it up, it wouldn't be a big loss. Plan was to rout a cavity for the battery and swap in some active pickups. I used a Dremel with a plunge router attachment, it worked but I wouldn't use it again. It took forever, was a little sketchy and I broke a $40 bit and had to buy another one. But it turned out fine and works great. The pickups are pretty high gain sounding, almost scratchy, but great for a heavy sound. I am debating on leaving them in the Warrior or swapping them into something else. I actually hate the Warrior shape, a little too Japanese speed metal for me. I wanted a Kelly, but this was cheap. I also leveled and crowned the frets, filed off the fret sprout and finished it all off. It plays like a much more expensive guitar, but I am glad I bought a cheap one to experiment on before taking files to one of my more expensive guitars.

PRS SE Customer 24 Floyd - Guitar Center Special

Didn't really want this one, and probably paid a little too much, but I liked that it was older, Korean made, and didn't have the flamed top with the Charcoal Burst, it's quilted with just a grey stain. It also has full binding, which a SE Custom 24 Floyd shouldn't have, so that makes it a little special. Still and SE, but was surprised at the quality. Unfortunately it got some sort of cleaner spilled on it that soaked through the box and the gig bag. It did something to the electronics and after trying to chase down the problem, I said fuck it and just replaced everything except the blade switch. I swapped in a Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient set and it's become one of my favorite guitars to play. Plays as good as my Kiesel and has a nice tone, almost active, but not quite. Really like the Nazgul for the crunch and the Sentient does really sweet clean tones. Ahhh, I said the "T word"...

Jackson Pro Series DK2QM - Chlorine Burst

I bought this one for the looks alone. I tried to use the flash, but neither of the pics shows the real color of the Chlorine Burst finish. Google it for a better look. These aren't made right now and I wanted a nice one. I got this one with a Jackson hard case that will fit all of my Dinky and Soloist guitars, so that was a bonus. Either way, I had been watching these on Reverb thinking I would get one. One popped up for a killer price and I hesitated and lost it, so I jumped on this one when it popped up. I'm happy with it, it's mint and has a nice sound and feel. Very much like my older MIJ Jackson Pro Series DK2M, so it may find a new home eventually. I don't mind having too many guitars, but I like them to sound differently. Might do a pickup swap... Hmmmm...

Added a Jackson (Unsure model but has good hardware and was cheap) and an old 60's teisco my brother found in his shed. Teisco sounds good but needs to be setup

Thats probably it. My younger brother snagged it for $225. If that is what it is (Ill have to look it over better and find model) it deff plays well for a $400 guitar.
JS Series are Jackson's entry level line, usually made in China, but they can be good guitars with a good setup. I find most of them have at least a little fret sprout, probably due to the container-ship ride to get here. The tuners on my JS Series Warrior are a little janky and not smooth, but they get the job done. Pickups are subjective, but they are not bad in my opinion. They aren't really worth upgrading, in my opinion, but I did it to my Warrior because if I fucked it up, I wouldn't be out much. But definitely a good deal for $225. 👍

I have that same Jackson in my rack. Yes....some fret work needed done. And I had to file down the fret ends, as they were surer rough and sharp. Fun little guitar for what it is. Tuners ARE bad on it though. Enjoy!

Got me questioning it now so just checked (was drinking pretty good last weekend playing it) and the setup is spot on. Frets perfect with no sprout and ends are all perfectly dressed. Action is 4/64ths high/low and no high frets. So I assume someone has gone through it before or got lucky.

Does sounds like someone went through it pretty well, then (or, as you also said....you got lucky on it). Nice!

New member of the family...MusicMan Luke III. I have many nice 7 strings but have been needing a 6 lately, this one popped up as a good deal locally. Feels great and plays awesome 🎸

Back in the 80's, my uncle used to retrieve bales of cocaine out of the Atchafalaya River for the CIA. He used a 19' Skeeter bass boat that exact color.

Must stay off Reverb...

Must not buy a 7 string....

Um, yeah.... Whatever... :flipoff2:

Number 17 is a Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder III in the 7 string variety:

Damn, this thing is heavy! I haven't weighed it yet, but this thing has to be heavier than my Explorer. I'm guessing the mahogany body and the added 7th string and related stuff. Headstock is flat, no scarf joint, very similar to my ESP.

I added the usual Schaller strap locks, Walker and Williams strap, red Floyd Rose springs and some Slinkys in the Skinny Top/Heavy Bottom variety. Tuned to D standard, my usual, which puts the low string down to A.

I can play it and it really didn't take much thought to get the hang of it, even with my short fingers. The only problem is I sometimes will mute the low string with my thumb, and that's a little more difficult. I'm not real happy with the humbucker, it's an active EMG Retro Active 70 that's surprisingly weak sounding for an active. I have some Seymour Duncan passives that will blow it away. Unfortunately, 7 string active pickups are not super common, especially in the normal pickup (non-soapbar) variety, so options are limited.

Oh yeah, it's missing a knob. It was also very filthy. I have a few knobs, I just haven't dug them out yet. I cleaned it up a lot and polished the frets, but I cut the cleaning short because I didn't what to spend a ton of time on it if it wasn't comfortable for me to play.

I drove 3.5 hours to Sweetwater the other day and ended up bringing home a new Alesis Strata Prime drum set. I may be done with guitars for a while!

I frequently have my girlfriend record me playing something I like so I can have some sort of reference to remember what the fuck it was the next time I try to play it. For whatever reason, I liked this little bit I made up in a few minutes and decided to keep it. Possibly a product of too much Fires In The Distance and Oh Hiroshima... Anyway, ignore the junk on my bench... :flipoff2:
