Ok, I've never done gears before but I'm far from mechanically inept. I've seen this done a bunch but never tackled it myself.
Anyways, here's where I am.

Front waggy (LP) D44 with Warn hubs, so it wont see lots of miles anyways. 4.56 thick cut Revolution gears.
Backlash right near the max spec... but the pattern looks ok to me?

I'd run it.

I like them centered up like that
Yeah I saw acceptable patterns only like half way off the toe and heel and I'm like.... that seems bad.
The drive side seems a touch outside of center but I think it would be ok for this application

I cannot brain how these are acceptable

I didn't understand what you meant until you posted the picture, its not acceptable. Who the **** made that pic ?
There are specialty services where you might want them heavy on the heel or toe but this isn't one of them.
In fact, I haven't seen anyone do that in many years.

Pretty damn close to as close to perfect as you'll get. Great setup for your first time.

Hope the rear goes as well. I've liked revolution better than yukon for the past few yrs

Lucky for me the rear is already done by the previous owner and has been for a while. Just needed (and been procrastinating) doing the front to match. I've had tons of other stuff to do on the jeep in the meantime though haha.

looks good.

sounds like this rig with backlash on the higher side but within spec is good. i like to try to get the lower end of the spec on my junk. as things wear in and settle that number will grow some.

something seeing street time with hubs unlocked probably not that big of a concern though.

I always tell everyone throw that damn Yukon illustration in the trash. God the patterns are so confusing, they show a dozen patterns that all look the same. 3 say good, 6 day bad.

Your set appears to be a 2-cut gear, notice how the tooth is the same height all the way inside to outside? They will produce the diamond pattern you’re seeing. That being said they do like a tighter BL (normally 4-6 thou) than their 5-cut counterparts (normally 6-10 thou range)

As long as your BL isn’t too loose I’d seal that bad boy up.

I setup gears in my jeep having never done them. I would try and move the contact patch closer to the toe so it would be slightly more centered if I had a few thousandths shims.

I also looked at the contact patch after the yellow Pattinson you show pictures of to see where it's marking the unpainted tooth to compare to the Yukon book. I never used anything else.

These are 5 grind gears, Im like 95% sure. The teeth taper outward. I don't even see 2 grind available on Revolution's spec sheet for the D44. I could be wrong I suppose but I will recheck the part number.

But yeah this is a very light mileage rig. 4wd would be very seldom and I'd wager the front gears would probably never see 5,000 miles in their life haha.
I do need to break them in around the farm I suppose...

I’ve ran into a few Revo 2-cuts for the JLs. Wasn’t sure if they were making them for every application at this point since they are easier to cut.

Ah that tracks with their specs chart. Those have 2 grind specs.
