WTF is the purpose of replying to an ad with the canned reply?
I have some rims I’m selling right now and out of about 20 inquires at least half reply with the canned response, I respond then no further communication.
Is there a purpose to this? Trying to get information from me? What are they trying to accomplish?

There's a ton of fucking people out there too stupid to delete an ad after something is sold, maybe they really just want to know if it's still available.

Doesn't help FBMP fucking sucks and doesn't auto delete ads after a certain period of time. Half the shit you're shown on there is ads from 2 years ago.

I bet I’ve done it half-a-dozen times, or more, by accident. When looking at marketplace items on my phone, I’ll fat-finger that message button, and it’s a one-click job to send that default message. I’ll always follow up with a quick message explaining my mistake, but I agree, it is f’n annoying getting that message.

Well maybe if you tried selling the whole wheel you'd have better luck. :flipoff2:

My wife sold a car on there. I told her not to reply to anyone unless they mention something specifically about the car. She answered one guy wanting parts that offered a fair price for the parts almost what she wanted for the car. I told her just tell him a little more and he can buy it. He agreed to her price and met is at the time he said and brought the right amount of cash. No haggling or kicking tires nothing. My wife was so happy she was ready to sell more stuff. I said hold on wait a minute, that deal went as good as it possibly could. They usually dont go that easy.

Finger hits the auto generated reply while scrolling. I've done it and have had people that sent me that reply on things I'm selling apologize for accidently sending it.

I received that response recently after listing a seat, first time ever getting a second response. He doesn’t want to pay $260 to ship a $100 seat. I don’t wanna sit in a car for seven hours to complete the deal.

There has to be some data that shows engagement increases through that interchange. It's a universally despised "feature."
I suspect Facebook itself sends some of those to increase engagement. about 80% of the crap on facebook is manipulated to show engagement. It would be a ghost town if they didn't.

I've closed enough deals responding to "is this still available" to not get pissy about receiving the canned message.

If you can’t navigate this, you are the problem!

First: they make it way too easy to accidentally hit the auto response button while you’re just trying to swipe. I’ve gotten return messages of “yes it’s still available” to messages I didn’t even know I sent.

Second, it’s a reasonable first question to ask. No sense in starting a conversation if it’s already sold.

this. I abhor that FB messenger notification, that ends up being them reminding me I looked at something. No I'm not really interested in that anymore.

As said, partially fat fingers, I've done it. Fb fuckery as well. Also I just send the thumbs up one click on message stream, don't even look for canned response. Its to the right of the box you type in. Takes less than a second.
