Just drill low rpm lots of pressure. Watch the chips if they turn blue you’re in trouble brown is ok.

My buddy who's leaf broke at the weld, welded a square U-bolt to his leaf. I think he cranked up the welder to 11. If you did a shallow weld, I think the weld would crack first.
