Facebook, Columbus day, and no hope for humanity

OTOH, church and state were much more intertwined back then, and I'm pretty sure his shenanigan's were against what the good book laid out. Both the man and his backers blatantly ignored such.
Funny you mention that. The rules of Spain at the time actually shot down Columbus' attempt to send them the Caribs as slaves. So it could be that even they were against enslaving a group they saw as more civilized compared to the Arawaks.

The "Church" did a lot of horrific shit in the name of God way back when. Not unlike how the radical Muslims see infidels today.
or media... or government... or climate change... or any belief system.

Well... Columbus is to say. He wrote down everything that happened. The closest neighboring tribe inhabited other islands. They launched poison arrows at anyone when they approached their island, and were generally competitors to the Arwarks. They were called the Caribs and the Arwarks started rumors that they were mean and are people. Another term for their tribe was...get ready... Cannibals. Turns out once Columbus and his men managed to actually meet them, it was found they were more industrious and civil than the Arwarks. We know this because members of Columbus's crew wrote as much in their journals. However, Columbus used rumors of eating people as an excuse to attempt to sell them as slaves to Spain. It didn't work because the Cannibals actually fought back and the Spanish decided to skip them over in favor of conquering the more docile Arwarks.
Well, I actually learned something. Thanks.

You're right, both sides need to be more open-minded. Blindly opposing views just because they come from "the other side" isn't helpful. If we're stuck in reactionary thinking, we're missing the bigger picture and real conversation about history and current issues. It's frustrating to see so much polarization, especially around something like Columbus Day, which has a complex and nuanced history. Real progress happens when we’re willing to listen and think critically instead of just reacting.

Fact, Religion has killed more people than race or territory battles.

Only if you consider Marxism/communism/socialism/fascism a religion.

Which, by definition, it could be a religion. All based on man and .gov.

However, organized religion doesn't hold a candle to those types.
