What's new

Engine machine work/repair question. Sleeves, etc.

With all the goldwing talk, I had to check, your engine is probably 660cc maybe a E07A depending on year, when the goldwing went boxer 6 it was 1520cc and stayed there for years, doesn't math out, maybe if you can match the bore, and bore spacing you'll get lucky and can use goldwing gaskets, you're looking at like $175 for a gasket kit alone on that

Yep. Parts aren’t cheap or easy. I have access to a laser cutter and gasket material so the only one I really have to buy is the HG but it will be a PITA no matter what.

The engine isnt an exact match to the Goldwing, that is just the closest USDM motor. Supposedly.

If the head gasket fire ring sits entirely on the top of the iron cyl, then it probably won’t leak anything. The folded over metal part of the gasket does the work of the sealing around the cyl

Jb weld it with some headgasket stop leak. If that don't work, find a new block, or better yet swap in a better motor.

now I'm thinking something air cooled and 2 stroke
because coolant is for losers and all

So my thought is that I should send the head out and see if it is cracked or warped because the HG seals against the sleeve, not the block.

That would be the next thing to do. Unless you got to see the gasket that came off of it and it was visibly blown/leaking. Then run the pistons down to the bottom of the bores and run a hone lightly on the cyls , then clean them out good and send it. If it still has problems after that , then there is always the sunroof solution

Or do a v twin Briggs and Stratton swap

Pfft, Briggs.

Chevy Sprint.
