Elon Musk Ditches 'Entitled' California

This is the next move in Musk's very public spat with the state of California.

Dec 10th, 2020

The latest news from Tesla has centered on its attempt to raise massive amounts of cash, with the EV maker announcing this week it will seek another $5 billion in a stock offering.

But Tesla founder and chief executive Elon Musk may need to take a few days off coming up and… possibly borrow your pickup truck? That’s because, a decades-long resident of Los Angeles, Musk is making the big move from California to Texas.

Normally nobody would care about this, but in this case Musk has a reason that he’s divulged amid a very public spat with the state of California over its handling of the Coronavirus.

Back in spring, shutdown orders that stopped production at the Tesla Fremont factory led Musk to call the orders “fascist” and openly defy them. At the time he threatened to move Tesla’s headquarters from California, but reports of the prospective billion-dollar price tag might have slowed his roll on that effort.

But that wasn’t going to stop Musk from taking his personal residence, and fortune, out of the Sunshine State, against which he still clearly has hard feelings. Take his comments from a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, where he complained that the Bay Area held “outsized influence on the world.” Musk also likened California to a sports team that keeps on winning, suggesting they get “complacent, a little entitled and then they don’t win the championship anymore.”

Despite all the public rancor, Musk doesn’t really need to justify his move to Texas. Not only is SpaceX building its Starship in Boca Chica, but Tesla has also recently begun construction on a Gigafactory in Austin. He frequently shuttles back and forth between the two states, so it’s not exactly a stretch to set up shop there.

Oh, and one more small detail that bears acknowledging: Texas has no personal income tax, where California has the highest tax in the nation on its richest residents. This seems like it might be relevant considering a recent stock award bonanza has bumped Elon Musk up to being the world’s second richest person, after leapfrogging Bill Gates.

Who was the one billionaire that moved out of NJ and caused them to call a special session to address the budget shortfall from his taxes?

Lets just hope he doesn't contribute to the Californification of TX. He and Joe Rogan can hang in Austin with the weird folks.

And this is why I’m not even considering Texas as a possibility to relocate to. Too many Kommiefornians moving there and destroying it already. AZ is also on its way down. Montana is looking better and better by the day.

Good for him.

Seriously.

Kinda surprised he even set up in Ca in the first place.

Sucks for all the jobs that'll be lost, but as long as Ca keeps playin stupid games these are the things that are gonna happen.

The one hope is that all the Ca politics are left in Ca.

he will.

'high paying tech jobs' working at the HQ? yeah, those are the deep blue fucks that are already loving keep austin weird.

Blue Texas, and Elon Musk is helping. Should have known.

I think every single Techfag CEO should have to live by strict Progressive codes. First to go is their fucking billions, straight to BLM.

Fuck them all. I want to eat them, it's finally happened. I am a 1973 Punk Rocker.

CA wants to be the poster child for clean transportation, i bet they hooked him up with all kinds of tax incentives, and access to a large talent pool. makes sense, but everyone is leaving might as well join the party.

Silicon Valley - access to talent and money.

The infrastructure offered by the closed NUMMI plant was likely a key factor.

Changing product from Tacomas to golf carts is easier than starting from scratch.

Good. One more slap in the face to the assholes running this state. Hopefully if they get slapped enough things will change, but I don't really believe that will happen. We're already planning our escape.

California is nothing but a lying bunch of dicks.

They boast they don't have any coal fired power plants.... and they don't. One of the states largest imports.... Electricity from coal fired power plants.

I believe Elon is a conservative kind of guy.... i think and hope for Texas

Agreed on both. Good luck!

Saw this yesterday, and just started laughing.

If enough Californians are moving to all these states to out vote its "natural citizens" when is California going to be empty?
I think California is being used a scapegoat for society wanting government to take care of all their little problems

A scapegoat?
Does CA have the highest tax rate?
Does CA have the craziest gun laws or is it NY, hard to keep up here.
Does CA have the strictest Covid restrictions?
Does CA have the craziest smog laws?
Does CA have the largest illegal population?
Does CA have the largest homeless problem?
Does CA have the Governor that stays on TV demanding tighter and tighter restrictions while ignoring them on video?
Did CA lead the way in setting up sanctuary cities, then state?
Is it CA Mayors that have sent out warnings to felons that ICE was planning something?

I'm sure I must have it wrong. It is definitely Kentucky I was thinking about.

A scapegoat?

Yes.

A good portion of your peers (lifetime locals) vote for the stupid shit we all hate.

You can't blame their actions on some other state. Face it: the cancer is everywhere.

BUT . . . you go ahead & blame outsiders if it makes you feel superior
