Double Budget Fixture Table

Last night.
I love the height of this table and it's my go to work area. I try to always keep it clean so I know I'll have a decent work space for projects.

Stupid question I'm sure, but for those clamps do you have to go under the tabletop and put a nut on each or something? or does friction as the clamp pushes or pulls against the sides of the holes keep the clamps from just lifting up? I've obviously never worked with a table that nice :homer:

Good question.

They go in from the top and bind in the holes as you tighten them. If you try to overtighten them (these particular clamps) you will put a small dimple in the table top. They get pretty tight but your not straightening something bent with them.

I'll post up some pics tonight when I'm next to it.

How do you like that notcher? Ive been contemplating that one, since it is reasonably priced.

Sorry I missed this!

I have only notched 15-20 tubes with it so far but am really impressed - especially for the low price like you mentioned. I did a couple offset notches and a few steep angle notches and it handled it with ease. Another nice touch is the ability to use strong hand accessories with it which I have a few of. I plan on doing a review in the near future after I have some more time on it (upcoming cage build).

I gotcha, that's kinda what I figured as I was asking, sounds like not all that cool of a table if you're crawling under it to bolt shit down all the time.

Very nice. I will eventually get a mag drill and make one with 1/4" thick top plate OR if i can afford it a 3/8" thick top plate and have some holes waterjet cut in it on a 4x4" Grid and get some clamps like you have there. Are they for a 5/8" aka 16MM Hole?

No, currently 1/2" hole but figured I could use a 5/8" reamer in the future when these get a little more wollered out.

The 4x4 grid is the way to go but I would recommend 3/8" or thicker if it's also going to serve as your primary or only fab table. I was basically in the same boat but with 3/8" & 1/2".

My current table is 7/8" thick but it's not that flat and has a wave in it. Would love to get it ground flat but that costs more than buying new metal and making a whole new table.

Here's how I made the clamps I am using now.

Just a 1/2" bolt cut down and slipped inside of a collar with a 1/2" ID.

Cut off the fixed end of an F clamp and replace it with this thingy.

Two that are made like this.

Slotted Through the middle and welded on both sides.

The first ones I made are put together a little different.

This hole got worked a little too hard at one point :grinpimp:

This makes loading, unloading, and moving around a breeze. Could also be used in conjunction with a ratchet strap in some strange scenario. There's another one floating around somewhere.

Where did you get it done for that cheap? I don't need the full thickness so if they grind it down as much as they want that's fine with me.

Call a larger grinding shop in a big city. I just told them to clean up, whatever that happened to be.

Love the table! Lot of good ideas in here. I’m in the process of replacing my HF table that I got when I first started welding. Planning on doing something similar.
