Posted some misc leftovers from a Cummins donor truck on FB and Marketplace.

One of the parts is the factory cummins to dodge adapter. I listed it for around the same price as what they're listed on ebay since I know someone will jew me down.

Guy texted me a bunch of questions on the 3rd about it, then said he was going to try and find a trans before he drove ~2 hours to me.

I ended up pulling the flex plate and seeing that the adapter had some scrapes from loose TC bolts. I let the guy know and said I'd knock the price down, or the shop the engine is at has like 5 or 6 that I could swap with.

He texted me this today:

Like wtf man, you have SEVEN to choose from and you're still worried that a fucking hunk of metal with some holes in it just isn't going to be good enough for you? I'm like 1 question away from telling him to fuck off, and sending him a dragqueen3000 style "chop it in half" video

I just don't deal with that shit. I post everything you need to know in the ad with specific information on how I want to be contacted and paid, in English, via email, cash only. If you ask something I missed, I'll happily answer, but if you're asking me stupid shit that's in the ad or nitpicking just to nitpick, I just don't respond. Contact me in a language other than English, I don't respond. Send me a phone number asking me to call you, I don't respond.

Might take a bit longer to sell something, but it's far less headache than dealing with idiots.

I absolutely do not give people my real number either and the Google Voice number definitely doesn't go in ads. You only get that if you're a serious buyer and we're at the point of meeting somewhere.

I don't understand the weary of putting your phone number online. I've done it for 15+ years and never had an issue.

Also, it sounds like you never actually sell anything

Several reasons. I don't like talking on the phone, I don't want people I don't know to have my phone number, I don't want a million robo calls, and the biggest reason is I don't want people calling me at odd hours.

Never been an issue, even back when email wasn't as common as it is now. Sold a bunch of old computer parts and stuff here recently without it being an issue.

I had one person I sold a car to text me after I sold it asking for help, and I tried to help but couldn’t. I have no concern of someone having my phone number when trying to sell shit. It’s faster than email.

Guy sounds like he wants a brand new part for $100 off. Are these scrapes going to make it unusable? I’d stop texting the guy and when he asks if you found another day ‘no.’ Nothing else. Make him tell you he wants it because it is clear he doesn’t.

Send him the clodhopper video though. I’m totally down to watch it.

:lmao::lmao:

My son is still hustling Nissan parts from his street sweeper car. I love his answer to guys.

I have the only one in the country, so buy it or fuck off. when do you want to meet ?

So far, he has sold every part. :flipoff2:

I only meet people at my shop between 8 and 6 M-F unless they have given me a deposit and want to complete the deal outside business hours. People are very often time-wasting brokedick assclowns.

I have also figured out years ago that being nice and answering a bunch of dumb questions doesn’t work. I tell people to come look at it if they are a real buyer.

Om small ticket items I'll send a text out to friends to see if anyone wants it. If not, it goes to the dump. Even if you give shit away for free, you'll have someone complain about something...a scratch, dent, missing a piece...etc.

My beef at the moment is the number of sellers who respond to questions by hitting the 'yes it's available' button when there was a question asked.

Latest was a guy who had some welding tanks for sale. Add says he can delivery locally within parts of country xx.... I'm just south of country xx.

Went something like this....

"How far south is county xx do you typically go?"

'Yes, it's available"

'Not what I asked....."

'It's in the ad'.

No it's not.....

I've had more luck buying and selling stuff that way also. If this project wasn't getting so expensive xi wouldn't have bothered to post this stuff, but trying to recoup what I can.

I'm not going to dick with this guys questions anymore. If he wants to drive up with some cash, I'll sell.

When I do list things ( I listed a Bobcat UTV for Dad a few weeks ago) I clearly state, no holds. First with cash takes it. Then I post the first available time that the item can be looked at.

Dude was sitting there 10 minutes early with the trailer ramps down and straps ready...Handed me the asking price, jumped in and loaded it up.

He texted me a month later calling me a thief because the water pump was bad? Ignored.

He texted me again like two months ago calling me every name in the book because the HG was leaking? Blocked that old fucker.
This is the other reason I don't even want my phone number involved. People are stupid and want to keep contacting you well after the fact over stupid shit.

Dealt with that when I sold my 03 Ram and thats the last time I gave anyone my real phone number. Guy that bought it was certain he could get the rear diff fixed for next to nothing, knew a guy. Ok, good for you. Turned out he couldn't and he spent weeks texting me and leaving me voicemails about how I ripped him off, how he was going to sue me, sue the dealership I worked at for fraud, etc. Evolved into him threatening to show up and shoot me and eventually into him apologizing and continuously sending me updates about the truck months later before he finally got it through his head that I don't give a fuck at all about him, the truck, or anything going on with either. This was back before you could easily block numbers. Verizon would make you contact them to do it, you couldn't just do it through your phone.

Now you get a Voice number from me and I just block your number after we part ways. Nothing but smooth transactions since I stopped dealing with stupid people since then. Couple tire kickers in person here or there, but not much.

I'm going to be selling off somewhat of a project motorcycle by the end of this weekend. looking forward to those messages.

I have only sold a couple of things on CL, like an old freezer. That experience was so terrible that if I buy something this is my process:

If I don't like the price in the ad, I am not going to contact the seller, I just move on with my life. I dont sit around the campfire bragging about how I am a master negotiator. If I want or need something I will at least bring enough money to pay the posted price, if something is wrong with the item and not posted in the add I may offer lower but most likely I will say "No thanks" and walk off.

I pay attention to the seller's preferred method of communication, if the craigslist email is the only one than that is how I do it, if it's a phone number I look for them to write their preference on call or text.

When I do respond I start with my name, then I saw X item on X ad platform and I have cash / truck / help to lift object and I can be in the area in X amount of time let me know if that works for you.

I have had multiple people knock off up to $100 on things that I brought the full amount for just for being easy to work with. Seriously. It's a shitshow out there.

This is very true especially if something is priced at or below market. Lots is time a picture of the money and a truck will get people to come down in price as well.

Just sold some stuff recently on marketplace had 100 messages a day about each thing more than half of them is it still available.

The general public is retarded, when you sell something on marketplace/cl you are dealing with the public so be prepared to shake your head and want to kill yourself.

Thats where my post came from. Pos project bike, i saw it run but the kicker is jambing against the bent foot peg, paid $900, spent another $200 on ebay for some parts, selling for $700 cause i want it gone, and im getting nothing but bullshit for it.

Dodge was mostly jerk off
The couple that ive gotten for my ford have been the same way. I drive it every day, its running in the drive way right now, offer of $2k when my asking $ is perfectly reasonable. Any thing less is 6.0l or destroyed, anything nicer is 2x + the asking price.

Sort of like the Shadow I bought. Turned over, but didn't start. fixed the no start. re did the cobbled fuel lines. drained the tank. new turn signal. new plug off the stator. it starts and idles. shifts and moves. give it throttle and it cuts out. it has to be the jets or something in the carb. I don't have it in me to remove them. I'll put it up for like $1000 and take $600 if I have to. whatever. just want it gone.

I know I'll get a message a week later how they tried riding it around town without doing anything to it and it won't go.

Sold a set of OEM wheels with old tires on them a few days ago. Asked if still available, then asked when they could pick them up. Dude showed up on time, handed me the money before even looking at them. I helped him load, he left. Less than 10 minutes because they were listed at the I want them out of my yard price.

I always state price is firm. If anyone asks me if I will take anything less, I block them. I don't sell stuff on CL for profit. I sell stuff because I'm tired of looking at it or it got in my way one time to many.

It is a jungle out there. I have a couple of things I could probably sell faster on FB. But....it is such a mess I have been sticking to CL lately. It still works, and I have done well. I almost refuse to do phone unless I know who I am dealing with a bit. It is a preference thing and I have had the weekly update guy from past sales happen several times. Just yesterday in fact, not my thing personally....

Selling or buying things has gone from something I looked forward to into something that I somewhat endure.

I've dropped the price for nice buyers. I am a nice buyer.

My buddy sums it up ike this, there way too many broke people sitting on the moms couch just throwing low-balls to see if something sticks.

Buying and selling in this world is just like dealing with people anywhere else. It isn't the same as it was ten years ago so the rules of engagement have to change.

That is my precise method. It works well and is appreciated by the seller.

I listed an item on facespace the other day at the get it out of my garage price, got the money but its still in my garage.
it was quite popular posted it at 6am and immediately got responses and at least 25 of them until someone finally showed up.

was a lot of stupid questions that were listed in the description.

Because of people who pull this exact shit, I'm just going to start asking higher prices for my bullshit. I'm going to be selling my shitty little 06 Fusion soon. There's not a goddamn thing wrong with it mechanically and it's the cheapest to drive car i've ever seen. Originally I was just going ot pass along the good deal I got on it to someone needing a cheap beater for like $1500.

With how people act now? I'd just get fucked with and stupid questions all day and tons of people will just be super skeptical about what's wrong with it. Fuck you all I guess it's a $2900 car now so you'll all take me seriously.

I have put near the bottom of my ad if you bring me 1 rockstar or Monster, I'll knock $100 off the price.
Really it's a test to see if anyone actually reads it.

Yup. Ford was 5500, jackasses get involved, now its $7500. Its not a $7500 truck. I wont let some one that actualy shows up pay $7500.

But every possible bit of info is listed and if theres anything other than when can i come i ask if they read the ad/tell them to read the ad.

Hell i was trying to sell just the cammpershell and rack for $300, the only reason the truck was even mentioned was to info them as to what it fit. Cheese dick mother fuckers are thinkingnthere gona get the truck for $300
