So I put 35 spline drive slugs on my son’s rig when I built it. I can’t remember who made em. Macs comes to mind. Hell I can’t remember. Anyway, he recently changed beadlocks and we took off the two inch spacers off and sold em with the old wheels. This has made the aluminum caps held on with three small screws vulnerable. He snapped an inner shaft on our last trip. Well the 2 1/2” aluminum dust caps were pretty chewed up with rock rash. As in, several screws were chewed half off. I’m thinking a steel version would be a better option. Before taking these to a machine shop and asking them to duplicate em in steel. Does anybody know of an off the shelf solution? These aren’t like the ones on ford or chev 60’s where the screws bolt to the slug itself. The slug is external and rebrooched from 30 splines I think?

Prob be cheaper to buy some internal wheel hubs and slugs that have someone local machine out steel externals.

High angle used to have a draw broacher
Get some blanks made with the bolt patter and center hole roughed out and have h/a broach the splines? Call him first though, he may have lost the machine in the fires.

Naw, the broached part is fine. The part being chewed up is the aluminum dust cap part.

They still do, actually a newer broach as the original machine was burnt up in the camp fire of November of 2018.

Not much help but the last I looked there were only aluminum caps. And I couldnt really find any that covered just the axle shaft like mine do. The ECGS version look to cover the whole external drive flange.

You can make your own from 35spline side gears. Get the circles laser cut, glue together with welder...

Yeah that’s pretty much what I’ve found. I’m not sure why they don’t make the caps out of steel where they are so exposed to rocks.
