Yes I know I can just buy 8-lug hubs to the tune of $500. Fuck that.

So here's what I'm working with. Dexter 8-201

And here's what 8x6.5 and 6 on 5.5 look like together. This is with 5/8 through holes on the 6 lug pattern and .617 on the 8 lug pattern.

With the studs knocked out the existing holes in the hub have plenty of clearance for 5/8 bolts. I'm thinking that I throw countersunk screws in the 6 lug pattern of the spacer, weld them in, plunge a mill through where the heads interfere with the 8-lug pattern and then drop studs in. 4/6 of the lug bosses on the hub will need some clearance milled out of their faces for the heads of the wheel studs and those same 4/6 of the wheel studs will need one edge clipped like a Dana spindle stud to clear the shank of the 5/8 bolt sticking through the other side.

Sound good?

And do it all over again next time you need a hub
How often you going through hubs?

I would just buy an 8 lug hub if that ever happens.

Should be pretty hard not notice before I run a wheel bearing so far into the ground that I trash a hub on a single axle trailer.

There's several hub/drums on Amazon for $60-$85.

If you're set on making adapters, it'd be a lot easier to just totally overlap 2 of the holes. Then you'd still have 6 good ones...just like you do now. :flipoff2:

This drum kit includes the Dexter 8-201 hub (like yours), and is listed as for a #42 spindle. The inner bearing is 25580, and the outer is LM67048.

The Amazon one I linked above is also listed as for a #42 spindle. The inner bearing is 25580, and the outer is 14125A.

The 15123, LM67048, and 14125A bearings all have an ID of 1.25. The cup OD for all 3 is different, but this just needs to be matched to the hub. My guess is that the 8-lug hubs use a bigger outer bearing for increased capacity, but they still fit the same on the spindle.

That's what I'd do! I wish I could have found 8 lug drums that cheap years ago when I went from 15s to 16s on my flatbed. I had a set of 8 lug rims I wanted to use, mainly so the bolt pattern would match my truck. I wound up buying a set of 16" wagon wheels instead since it was so much cheaper.

All of the 6 on 5.5 to 8 on 6.5 adapters I've ever seen in the Toyota world are two piece adapters with countersunk gr10.9 fasteners holding the two halves together.
