What's new

Decepticon. The daily driver build.

You got the narrow bodies it looks like.

I like using those as I've got a feeling that the "normal" size joints of thiers and all other manufacturers can lead to binding since the body contacts the mounting ears far before they reach the rotational limits of the joint itself.

Not gonna lie. There were so many choices I got those by chance. :lmao:

Oil change and tire rotation day. Last bit of maintenance before our trip to Windrock in 2 weeks. Gonna drive it there and hopefully back.

Well. Windrock did not go according to plans. Smoked my transmission. The trails were a mess. On a steep uphill section of trail the mud was 8" deep and the consistency of peanutbutter. Did not end well.

Chris as Windrock Jeep Outpost called in a favor and got me into Napier Transmission just outside of Oakridge.

Currently getting a rebuild done. The guys at the shop are phenomenal people. Litterally offered me the keys to their house to stay the night and also to drive me 3+ hours to my mom's house in KY at 10pm.

Can't say enough good things about them.

Hopefully will be done by the weekend.

Just talked to the shop. Will be done sometime next week.

He said he's putting a new torque converter with kevlar woven clutches, oversized and extra planetary gears, oversized shafts, hard mounted cooler with hard lines, a fan and thermostat, Transgo shift kit, billet servo pack, and probably more I'm forgetting... plus he noticed my rear main seal was leaking so he dropped the oil pan, hammered the dent out of it, replaced the seal and and exhaust hardware that was crusty.

Not home yet, but drove 7 hours yesterday. Drove back roads in the TN mountains, drove on the interstate, drove in stop and go traffic. No transmission issues and it shifts like butter.

He told me everything he did to the trans, but I can't remember all of it. He sent a bunch of pics so I'll try to put some context with them.

Actual speed 75mph.

Other than moving some stuff around on the tailgate I am calling this build in it's current form done. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I feel like I've built an extremely capable daily driver without taking any shortcuts.
