Cold valve adjustment 22 series Toyota?

Searched to find the thread, but .
Someone posted doing the valve adjustment cold rather than hot.
Also recalled an additional caveat to set them tight.

I have always done em hot and neutral tension on a feeler gauge.
Anyone got info?
How are you guys doing them?
New 22re (celica head) swap, yadda yadda...

I've always set them to.007 and .011 cold, never had any valve related issues with any of my 22Rs.

Loose enough to drown out the timing chain slap?

depends on the cam. The last one I had was 6/8.
