Chief buggy

The place that builds my hoses makes those for me in whatever length or degree of bend, not pulls them out of a bin. Just curious was all.
That's awesome.
I've never even seen this being an option.

are you supporting that filter assembly or just relying on the fittings?

Wasnt planning too. Have one mounted identical on my current truggy for 10 years without issue...all steel fittings.

Soo thinking ahead. I part i had not planned on adding, but have been considering is on board air. I have a york on my current rig, and while I rarely use it for me, I am often using it for others. MY truck is often the resuce rig, has the random bolt, etc. If i take that same a pproach with this buggy it will become a pig(like the current).

So add OBA? or skip and let someone else be "that guy"?

Options would be VIAR, ARB, etc. Not engine driven.

I run a compressor in a bag with a handful of plugs. Feels like it gets used often. Is nice if you burp a tire.

This is a solid compressor for a great price. My buddies and I run them in our snow wheelers.I run a smaller harbor freight in crawler.

Napa air compressor

I was considering trying OBA using Tracker AC, but would probably be an all day event airing stuff up.

If you don't need it for yourself why bother? There's a guy in my group with OBA that's his deal. I carry a jump pack and electrical stuff. Of course we could both carry that stuff but why?

this rig is the nimble small and not meant to be the 6k heavy rig with all the tools. with that being said a small compressor in a bag is not a bad idea. bring with to the trail. if someone else that day has air leave it with the trailer. but if you are going ARBS and need a compressor any how then that's a different story.

So this place is a wealth of knowledge....I starting to research trans stuff. I got my standard gate winters shifter bracketry in stall on the trans. In looking and reading, the TF904 has a kick down cable from factory...is this something I need? I have not decided on a torue converter, stall speed, or valve body either yet.... Thoughts? opinions? Ideas?

I despise “TV” cables with a passion. I eliminate them by using manual valve bodies that also do constant pressure. As best I know all my buddies running 904’s have manual VB’s in them and just 1800 to 2000 rpm stall converters from Hughes. That doesn’t mean it won’t move at idle. It means the torque converter isn’t grabbing really hard until 1800~2000 rpm.

Tell me more. I am auto trans DUMB, literally have been wheeling a sm465 only. I have never messed with autos...

You don't need a kickdown cable with a manual valvebody.

If you want the trans to shift its own gears when you drive, then you need some way to tell it how much load is on the engine. Thats what the kickdown cable does. Just depends how you want to setup the trans.

Don't confuse kickdown cable with tv cable, 2 different things. Kickdown just tells it to downshift out of high gear when you are hard on the throttle, it does not control line pressure/other shifting points outside of that. TV cable affects all aspects of the transmission performance, and can/will burn one up in short order if not hooked up properly.

Manual VB will eliminate a TV cable as mentioned. I've never had any issues with the TV, on 700r4's, 999's, or even the 30rh (basically a 904). i do know the winters shifter on the 30rh would not work with the TV cable as they needed bracketry bolted into the same location on the transmission. I had debated going constant pressure, but read alot of mixed information on that, so ended up staying with a B&M shifter in order to keep the TV cable functioning.

700r4/999 were in previous rigs, the 700r4 was behind an LS and required some mods to make it work, but as mentioned I never had any issues with either one of them.

Well i talked to the GOAT for these trans in a crawler, Jesse Haines, I had the 4 cyl version of a 904.... Just found a the v6 XJ version, should have it this weekend. It also looks like i will be going RMVB from COPE. Also means i need to get a new shifter gate for the winters shifter.... :homer:

Jesses explained that the 4 cyl 904 would be a pain to get the input, TQ, etc to play with the 3.9. He also told me that the trans i have is desirable to the ecotec guys. So looks like i will likely sell that one.

I don’t know what else to tell you. If you want the transmission to shift it’s itself when in drive you have to make the TV cable work and work right. If you don’t mind manually shifting your automatic. Constant pressure manual VB’s solve a couple problems.

If you’ve never seen a perfectly good transmission get wiped out because of something as dumb as an improperly working TV cable you wouldn’t understand how cool a manual VB is. I truly believe most of the bad press the 700R4 gets is mostly due to the bull **** TV cable. I still have a couple trans with constant pressure VB’s and full TV cable deletes.

I don’t know the specifics of your trans but a MVB with compression braking is the cat’s ass.
RE stall, I have a Hughes 1800-2000. It tends to drive at idle if in low range. It will literally crawl up my ramp into my trailer without touching the throttle. If I were to do it over I would bump up to the next stall ~ 2200-ish

Cope is definitely the go to for 904 stuff and ecotec guys are always looking for the right 904.
Good choice on the MVB, simplifies everything.
Make sure you can pull the trans and tcase easily cause getting the converter exactly how you want it may take a swap or two.

i picked up a knock off arb dual compressor for the JK's lockers. I will report back how it works when i get it installed.
I just keep my M18 compressor in the truck for the buggy.

I had the dual ARB compressor on my JK. It kicks ass. I have the single ARB on my buggy for my locker and it works hard to air up a tire. (But lots of volume in a 43)
Very happy with my dual ARB as well. Put a small 2 gallon air tank hoping air tools would maybe be possible, I was sadly mistaken lol. Does great for my locker and airing tires back up though.

Are you using the new brushless? I bought the old design literally like a few weeks before the new brushless came out and wish I'd waited.

so in looking ahead, I will have to gear axles at some point. My OG plan was to go 5.38's. Spool front, factory elocker in the 11+ sterling. I couldnt find gears, or a yoke fo that sterling, So went with a 05-10 housing. Welding my brackets on right as gear were released..

I have been researching, East coast gear lists 5.38 for the 10.25, not the 10.5. i ASSume i just get the setup kit for the 06, and then the 10.25 gears?

Theres threads here that list it out better than I can likely explain. 10.25 gears fit 99-10 10.5 housings with 10.25 install kits. When I looked at install kits for my 10.5 some sites laid it out really nicely

You started the thread ****er:flipoff2: 5.13 gears for sterling 10.5???

i forgot about that :homer::laughing: . Figured Id ask. I guess that info is all there
