Chevy help in Shit Shat

My guess is fuel starvation

Fuel pressure gauge, I always made an extension so I could see it while driving

I've done that pump by tipping the bed.

but if it's rusty, cut a hole

Anytime its been contaminated gas/diesel ive just made a long pokey from wire and any hose long enough ...air gun, wet rag. Pretty quick. Ive had to do this on a full 50gl tank a few times over the past few years:homer:. But also on our chevy 2500s.

Its super quick easy to check fuel pressure on that model...should be a shrader lookin valve back of motor.

If you got slings super easy for your equipment to lift that off without a helper. If not some 2x4s for leverage and tilt.

I've had a similar issue with an 00 silverado 1500. Check fuel pressure at the rail, should be north of 50 psi. I ended up changing out the regulator/rails/injectors.

funny aside, I saw a friend wrote CHECK FUEL LEVEL IN TANK on the case of his FP gauge

I now have the same thing written on mine

That's pretty good!

I came along to fix a low power pickup that the shop badass changed out knock sensors, harnesses, and eventually head gaskets on. The fel pro box should have read "check fuel pressure" hell, his toolbox should have said it

I had a pretty cushy job fixing pickups in my own 3 bays for the next couple years...

towards the end there, a 30 day wonder showed up, gods gift to pickups, 22 years old, 46 years of experience, kept trying to get the boss to buy a 5k snap on scan tool from "my guy"
spent all day on a 6.0 Chevy, crying about not having that 5k scan tool. First thing the next morning I stick a pocket screwdriver in the Schrader valve and see red. Then proceed to pump 50 gallons of offroad diesel out of a gas truck, setting aside 5 in a nice white bucket to show the boss, who's been getting smoke blown up his ass....

Not the first time, not the last

Run fuel pressure gauge. Vortec and fuel pumps are finicky under 50ish psi. I think 60 at starting up. Or other way around.

if it's below. Fuel pump is what I bet on. Delphi for $150 to $180 on rockauto is what I'd recommend.

Remove all 8 bolts and taillight harness. You may or may not have ground gas neck strap. Remove 3 bolts and lift the bed up. Put 2x4 or so. You can remove rear bumper to not scratch bed if you're doing it yourself. Then when putting back down, push gas neck toward bed floor while laying the bed back down.

Fuel pump R/I. Close your eyes and your hand can feel when fuel pump bottom are flat (leveled)and press the pump down, flathead and drum brake tools I use to reinstall metal ring back in. Lube the o ring.

Dropping tank can be faster but kinda bit more to work with on reinstall unless you got lift post.

Fuel regulator tend to be finicky but doesn't fully cause problems immediately like your situation without some symptoms beforehand.

injectors are slow going crap like boiling frog.

Gotta keep these thing full of gas though lol

Check the grounds attached to the frame bracket of the front cab mount just under the drivers door hinge. The fuel pump circuit grounds there, and if they rust/break the pump will stop. Seen that a few times. Also seen that whole bracket rust off the frame and do the same thing lol!

But being a GM it's probably a fuel pump. They only come with 100k mile pumps from the factory. I've noticed most all the cars that have fuel pump access plates never actually need pumps, because if the manufacturer will spend the extra to install an access plate, they'll also spend the extra on a pump that lasts.

Well I cant track down a fuel pressure tester to save my live within 1.5 hrs. So have one showing up tomorrow morning. Saves time that way as I have to have the adjustment on the shifter fucked with on the mew transmission in the yukon. Always fucking something, sometimes I just want an old 3/4 ton carburetor pickup with a manual. Then I remember the ride from when I used to drive one and the urge passes for a mostly DD. I do need to find a 3/4 ton gmt 800 eventually. But I am not paying stupid covid prices. Your 20 year old 250k mile gasser is not worth $10-15,000. I will wait, and maybe fuck myself and end up with a 70’s 3/4 ton again. :lmao:

9 PSI of fuel pressure and my new filter looked like it was full of graphite. New Delphi pump is on order. Hate to not buy from the local guys but they want $140 more than I can get it online and money is tight right now. Work begins the week after thanksgiving so I should have her buttoned back up and on the road by then.
