Hmmmm maybe? I don't do carb tuning tho. I is idiot when it comes to carbs

Have new oil and fuel lines, plug air filter and filters for fuel and oil.

Was thinking of pulling baffles off the exhaust? But idk.

New metal dogs as well.

Zama knockoff vs OEM Zama is six of one half dozen of the other anymore, the OEM zama on the newer saws is made in China. I've had good luck with them on small power equipment. The one I linked is the one I have on my 170. Make sure you plug the unused impulse hole in the engine side of the carb if you do that swap, only one will line up with the intake on the saw.

who remembers or has a link to the thread about putting the wt 215 on the smaller non adjustable carb saws. Like the ms 170/180. I've got three of these to do, I'd go search AS but.....

Yeah i have run both and liked the Tq of the 462 compared to the 500.. Now bark box or not? my buddy keeps telling me to get a 400 but i am not sure. I ran a 362 during the class and it worked super I got no complaints. Most of my experience with a saw was with the 036 but I know they are very different from the 362,
 
The 462 rips and lightweight. Ran it with 28", plenty power for 32"

Though as long Echo still works, could save money and keep using it.

They teach you hand sharpening? If you struggle, get 2 n 1. Otherwise Swedish roller will be useful(easy to pocket)

I can hand sharpen. I used to be a wildland firefighter so I have a pretty solid base from that it’s just been a while since I had a sawyer card. The echo is great and I’ll keep it just want a bigger saw for some of the bigger trees that come down

I need to get my card renewed as well.
some Forests are stingy and do not like giving out anything other than a A sawyer card, which is kind of useless unless you have a B sawyer with you
Give me a C card and turn me loose :laughing:

that is funny
just broke the rope on my 170 this weekend as well.

when you clean the carb, make sure you take both ends off as well.
there is a very fine screen in the fuel end that will get dirt that the tank filter will not pick up.

the other side vents to atmosphere and if plugged will cause it to run very poorly

Let me know when and where to sign up for a class, my internet search doesn’t find much.

I see that Sierra Club offers it..,,but have to join SC and do some **** to get invited.
 
Luckily the trail orgs have good support we had a bunch of people getting A,B and C cards. I got my A which is lame even though the evaluator wanted to give me a B some new program said no.

The 500 has some special sequence to get it into "tune" mode. Apparently it makes it crazy easy to not bother with tuning if you port it and add a bark box. Also the highest power to weight ratio in the lineup.

462 and 500 both can run 18"-36" bars. 30"+ skip chain seems to be the go to at that power level though. I have a 28" full comp and 36" full skip for mine. I get a bit aggressive on the rakers and it'll pull some big chips if you let it cut and not try and force it.

I'm in the 462 camp because I bought the standard carb. No m-tronic, I can pocket a screwdriver.

400 is a dumb saw in my opinion. It's so close in weight to the 462 with 12cc less I don't know why you'd buy one. Power to weight is lower than the 462 and 500. Maybe in a climbing saw, but then I see guys do a 261 and skip right to the 462.
I'm sure the magnesium piston makes it feel like it revs quick, but it really doesn't show in the power to weight ratio.

I do need to grab the WCS kit for my 462, I already always wear muffs with it, might as well do the bark box. The big dogs would be nice as the stock ones don't grab much of anything here. And the stiffer dampeners would be nice with the big bars.
