One thing I noticed immediately is the HK was thinner and would actually pour out of the jug in sub freezing temps.

So you just got ahold of winter spec bar oil. Have ran the stihl stuff before and that ****s pretty thin as well

before this I have always ran the silver jug Stihl bar oil. they also sell a blue jug cold weather Stihl oil as well but I have never used it.

I've been trying to use up all the old random oil that came with my shop. So I'm about 50/50 that and winter blend/whatever bar oil I have on hand

I use the Tractor Supply bar oil, I can get it for about 8/gal
Stihl or Husky is over 25/gal
the TC is a little thinner, but I have no issues with it

Same for me, I buy it from TSC or Bomgaars whenever they have it on sale for $7-8/gallon. Never had any issues.

don't use drain oil from diesels
it makes a tremendous mess

gas motor drain oil however...
