What's new

Canyonero! (85 F150)

The fastest and cheapest way I could think of to fix the panel gap was a body lift, but I'm not gonna pay $150 for some gay ass 3" kit off ebay. So one 12" stick of delrin later...

It's only 2" diameter, so it looks a little stupid sitting on top of the factory rubber donuts, but they're doing their job perfectly. Ended up going with 5/8" of lift. I think actually ordering up some amazon knock-off 3/4" hockey pucks would have been a better shot in hindsight, but this will work fine from what I'm doing, and it gave me a decent amount of drop to set on dad's lathe to remind him he needs to plug the fucker in and start using it already :flipoff2:.

Liberated a mouse nest in the process

If you're like me and throw up in your mount a bit at the idea of stock replacement core support mounts being $90 just for the 2 of them, here's what I got. Energy suspension 9.4102G Universal Body Mounts. They're thicker than a factory Ford mount I think, but they weren't the main source of my issues. I'd do it again.

And after setting the front clip back down again, I got it shimmed up and in it's (I think) final resting spot.

Just piddling along, a few hours after work here and there. Biggest stuff this last week was finishing up the carb rebuild and getting that thrown back on. Up next, cooling system, and running plug wires. Already got the wiring harnesses laid out with some new loom and tape this past weekend. This was also after throwing on anew fuel hose from the hardline to the pump, and a new low pressure return on the P/S.

Spent a fair bit of yesterday afternoon taking all the plastic trim and covers out of the back and removing the carpet. The rat piss smell has reduced significantly over the last months, but I think what's left of it is in the carpet and headliner. Originally, I was just going to scrap the carpet, but honestly I think a quick shampoo and pressure wash and it'll be perfectly good. Vacuum the rest out of the cab as best I can and hose down visible piss points with simple green and some brushing is pretty much all I'm going to do here.

Good all smallblock with afb, i love it:beer:

One of these guys:

Helps a ton when it comes to forcing all the bullshit out of the carpet. Drag it towards you (don't wear your nice boots, you're dragging emulsified rat-piss onto them) and watch in amazement at how FUCKING BROWN the water is.

I took Rockwood 's advice and borrowed my dad's rubber concrete squeegee to push the dirty shit out of the carpet during pressure washing. It seemed to work pretty good! I hosed down the spots I knew mice were touching with simple green and got as much of the dirt and grime that I could out of it. It's still stained in a few spots, but overall it looks much better. Threw that shit back in after letting it dry for a week or so.

Smell is definitely less now. There's another nest up in the sheetmetal around the top of the cab that I won't be able to directly treat. Probably will just pull the nest out and try to douse the area with soapy water and maybe cram a small toilet brush in there to try to defeat the last of the smell before putting the headliner back up.

In other non-pictured news, accessories are tightened up, cooling system is together, distributor cap is reassembled and spark plug wires ran, starter installed, battery cables installed, and I dropped 5 gallons of spare jetski fuel from the last lake trip in the tank. Hoping to see if I can get around to firing it up for the first time this weekend.

Lastly, I liberated this sweet Taiwan repop front bumper off my Bronco with the oxy torch and took the opportunity to use some huge 9/16 hardware I had laying around to throw it on. Thing looks much better with an actual chin.

So there I was, rolling around under the bed getting ready to do the next round of lift puck shenanigans, when I had the thought that I was mere minutes of work away from just yoinking the bed and making it easier on myself to service the fuel system.

I have flown too close to the sun. I have stared into the asshole of god and it has burned my eyes.

The varnish crust in insane. The tanks aren't even rusty, that's all varnish :barf::barf:
The rear one was the worse of the two, the entire bottom of it was completely covered in 3/4" of gelatinous goo. I tried burning them out to see if I could just ash the stuff out, but fuel tanks don't let enough fresh air in to burn properly, so that was a farse. I ended up just washing and rinsing with the turbo nozzle on the pressure washer for a few hours, followed by a few hours of fill and rinses with fresh water to get all the particulate out that I could.

I'm honestly impressed with the results. There's still plenty of shit in both of them, it's probably a truck that will need spare fuel filters carried in the glove box for a few years, but talk about improvement.

The good news to come out of the above post is that the 17 or so gallons of crazy black nasty deck stain that came out of them burns really nice and crispy in the smudge pot at the lake

The only place I found that I was dead sure I was getting the correct senders from for a longbed dual tank 85 F150 was LMC truck. Price wasn't awful either, Rock auto and the parts stores really sucked ass at telling me what I needed, but this shit was all totally correct.

After some mild brushing on top of the tanks, I threw in the emission valve grommets I got and the new senders. Also ran some new line for the emission valves.

Then set to making the rest of the pucks for the bed lift. There are like 6 spots where the bed crossmembers touch the frame that don't have bed bolts running through them, so I dicked around and made counter-bored pucks and drill-tapped some 1/4-20 holes in there to hold them in place.

Just got the bed put back on tonight. It looks much better now that it's the same level as the cab. Going to be screwing around with new hardware and some washer placement for alignment and support, but it's pretty close to being totally buttoned back up.
