California Mountain Lion Attack On Humans

So many of them out there, too.
My wife belongs to this FB group that's all about lion sightings and we see tons of pics and vids each week of lions on people's decks, backyards, on the roads, everywhere.

There you go, snitching on lions! How dare you! Those lions don't need people knowing they're about to pick up a tasty puppy snack!

Good reason to carry a firearm in the woods. Still, it is extremely rare. Interestingly, the last fatal attack in Northern California, about 30 years ago, occured in Auburn State Park, not too far from Georgetown.

Saw my first full size lion just down Mosquito Ridge in the daytime just 5 years ago. Jumped off the cut bank on one side and strolled past me down the bank like he owned the place. Which he does.

I lived in Colorado for 14 years. Saw two in the first year. Didn't see another one in the final 13 but one did stash a deer kill under my deck about a year before I sold and moved. I often ponder about how many saw me that I never realized were there.

The problem is that if you're attacked by a mountain lion there's a very good chance you never realized it was there until you're wearing it like a backpack with it's teeth sunk into your neck.
Yup. For every lion you see, at least 20 have seen you and you never knew it.

Told my wife about this story and she says "thank CA for the moratorium on hunting them".
The populations are blowing up, it's time we put them on the menu and have CA DFG issue tags.

I remember reading about that. IIRC the lion was killed by F&G. Peeps were very upset, but didn't give 2 Fk's about the woman.
I've delivered AvGas to that little airport a number of times in Georgetown about that time.

Been saying this was going to happen in California sooner than later, and very likely it would be in this area. Unfortunately, it happened here sooner than later.

Sadly, not clear on where. Georgetown covers a few feet:homer: I know it wasn't back past me since there were no ambulances flying past.

They’re here in Missouri also even though the conservation dept always denied it. Then things happened where they no longer could deny it.

Colorado always denied the existence of wolves until reintroduction was put on the ballot. Magically they announced the discovery of wolves residing in the state. I had a CO game warden tell me back in '08 they were aware of at least two packs on the state but they'd never admit it until they had to.

My Kayaking partner knew her. She was a triathlete and ran the Tahoe Auburn race. Media made it sound like kitty ate some little girl. She was covered with bite marks from trying to fend it off with her arms. She was dragged of and partially eaten. The lion was tracked, killed and was a diseased mother with two kittens. I have no love of them. California - One of our members has met one face to face and shot it. Another has described leaving a huge raw meat baited hook suspended from a branch to make a gruesome catch. Finished with a shot to the head or so. . . .. I know, cool story.

edit: yeah what Spreader said. One of the loudmouth assholes was Lush Bimbaugh

When you see these things in action you realized just how fucked you are if one wants you. The first one I ever saw I was driving back to my house in Evergreen just after dark after fishing in the South Platte down in Deckers. I was coming down the hill into the wide spot on the road of Pine Junction right on the edge of the Hayman fire. This thing came out of nowhere and in one leap went from out of sight to on the double yellow line just 20 feet in front of my headlights. It made a 90 degree turn at full speed, made two or three strides and then another 90 degree turn at full speed and was gone out of sight in a single bound again. All of this happened while I was driving at 55 and if I'd been blinking I would've missed it. Just unbelievable speed and agility from something of that size and I'll never forget that baseball bat of a tail acting like a rudder. I literally just started laughing at how stupid I was. I'd always s thought a grown man of decent ability would be able to fight off mountain lion. Not a chance in fucking hell. Not when an animal of that size with those weapons can move like that. A juvenile or emaciate geriatric animal? Yeah, you have a fighting chance. A healthy adult? It's a wrap. You're fucked.

Same with grizzly bears

If only they were able to open/conceal-carry....🤔😶
I carry on the property, especially after dark. We have plenty of two and four legged critters wandering around.

People in the HOA have claimed to have seen a lion over the years, but no one has produced even one crappy photo. I don’t doubt there could be a lion. We had a young bear hit and killed not far from me on the highway a couple years ago.

Uh. Sloughouse ? A former co worker that lived up the hill from there, just a little ways, had all 11 of his wife's sheep killed by teh kiiteh one night. A shop owner sold him a bolt gun in 270 Winchester. I was surprised because he is a purple heart Nam vet. I think I muttered something like - That's what the AR is for .. . . .

If they want to eat you they will catch you and eat you.
I was face to face (ok, danger close) to a bobcat back when I was in high school. I was taking out the trash, rounded the corner behind the garage and there he was . We backed up to Mt.Diablo state park, kitty cleared a six foot fence like it was nothing to head back to the wild.

No surprise. Probably all kinds of BS from the Gov and the public if they find out you have poor little fuzzy puppies.

No thanks. Maybe with a 12g in an open field.
