What's new

Budget XJ

That’s what I said to myself before I got this one :lmao:

Holy shit I just left AAA with a registration sticker for this thing. I actually have a street legal running rig now

I wouldn't get too wound up about the uni vs real frame, lots of "real" frames need just as must or more reinforcement

My buddy and his dad with built CJs both ordered whole new frames last year because they were sick of scabbing onto the poor excuse of the stock frame.

Or......... Just get a Toyota and not ha e to touch the frame :flipoff2:

Hack it apart like plenty others and make it a ‘street legal’ tube buggy. Just weld the sheet metal to some box tubing.

Most cars, nope.

80s Japanese cars, yep. Rust away even in CA :flipoff2:

I currently own an 82 Toyota that spent the first 10 years of its life in SLO area and all but the last few in norcal. It's barely got surface rust on the frame? I've owned a dozen or more others also.

I know they don't fare well in the rust belt, but honestly never seen much rust at all in CA except on the north coast towns.

Anyways, op, hurry up on some action shots :flipoff2:

LOL, yeah. They actually do rust a lot here in SoCal because all of the dirt in the deserts is former ocean. Any time it rains, the mud sticks to everything and rusts shit instantly.

I need the harness that goes through here.

Because I turned mine into glitter.

Ha, actually though, after more research it turns out that the engine harness for the 1990 is somewhat unique to that year, so I have to track down a 1999, 4.0, Automatic, with AC harness.

I spliced all of those and don’t think they have been an issue yet, I just don’t want to worry about it.
I think I might just pull the whole harness and rerun those wires in particular, with all the GXL stripey wire I have.

That will make it that much more fun for the next guy to figure out what the fuck is going on.

Anyone wanna throw in on this and we’ll just chop it up and divide it?

Atlas transfer case, 3 link front, 4 link rear, beadlocks, rock jock sway bar, D30 with an ARB, hydro steering, full cage….

Like YotaAtieToo said I’m going to build a 2 door I picked up for a good deal, hoping to break even on the 2 door purchase selling off what I don’t need from the white one.

I never smogged it so it was just non-op this whole time, AC/heat didn’t work, some engine quirks from being 34yr old, it was a little rougher than the 2 door I just picked up, and I built it being cheap with the goal of just getting out there after not having anything for years and not having budget. With every panel being dented and the “frame” being dented I figured I’d just scrap it after pulling everything valuable.

I’ll start a new thread on the 2 door when I pull it into the garage and have all my parts collected. Hoping to build it a little more intentionally and beefier than this build was.

That's a killer deal
Yeah like he said, that’s a great deal for what you’re getting.

Full cage with a front and rear links and a title?

I can see why it’s pending. The wheels and tires should bring $1,000 and the atlas is $3,000. Sell the axles for $500 ‘buyer takes both’ and slap some one tons under it.

I see why it’s pending. Probably sold before you posted anything.

fl0w3n i hear the two doors are a pain because no B piller support. Just cage the whole thing at the beginning after plating it front to rear (sell it and buy something with a frame because cherokees are gay).

That bumper looks like chinese junk! I know someone that makes recessed winch bumpers for MJs:flipoff2:

What year is it?

It probably is but I can’t complain, I effectively just picked this up for $3k. HP44/9” with chromos and CTM front, supposed rear chromo too but doesn’t look like it. ARB front Detroit rear. Runs drives registered, has AC/heat, but it’s on non-op.

It’s an 88 or 89, I already miss the HO and long ass door from the 2 door haha.

I’ll need to run through it closely when I get it home but it shouldn’t need too much to clean it up.
