What's new

Bucket - the CJ8 light mod - another build.

So, I got the big brake kit today, that uses Dodge rotors and calipers... and guess what? No rotors: They were missing, lol.

I also figured out how I am doing the rear brakes, so I am building weld on abutments that put a 2021 Ford F150 caliper, that is hydraulic, but has an electric parking brake on them... and a Cadlillac Limo/hearse rotor that is 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern:

The F150 has a GVW over 7klbs. I am not worried.

Also got the right hood, the other one I had would bleed rust through the paint.

Since OP went to wherever the fuck he went for a week I decided to flatten out the wheel faces. Check out my awesome work holding.

Turn the sound all the way up for this one

Hub runout measured in metric. Each one has a low spot but not enough to matter so whatever.

You driving or flying? Because if you're doing 84->90->495 I'm only ~30min out of the way.:flipoff2:

So, ECGS sent a box yesterday, got here today!

It's another set of calipers... I needed rotors.

Can't make this up.

Those Chevy rotors won't work?

I'm gonna try to swing by Friday and drop shit off. Failing that then Monday

Heading to ATL tomorrow, back Thursday.

Did start mocking up the knuckles out, bought bronze bushings, springless high steer arms, forged lower king pins and all new bearings.

Also, a 1" impact gun makes very short work of old king pins.

We cut the 60 to fit the 27.5" spacing of the CJ8 front springs.

I also have Ford F350 rotor boxes and bags here. I'll order my own 2018 Dodge rotors that match these four calipers they sent me.

If they don't want to swap them out, I'll use the extra two front calipers on my 2002 Dodge 2500.

More pics of axle assembly.

4" shorter, centered on 27.5" springs, same as the Orange CJ8 I did for a customer.

Oh and I bought a 6L80E... I really wanted one, and can get it done cheaper.

The 4L60E will get paired with a 27 spline Dana 300, since it has the pan clearance for a drive shaft and go into something else or get sold off.

I also have to turn the rear 14b hubs a bit, to slip fit the 8 lug 2003 Cadillac limo rotors I want to use, with the 2021 F150 calipers with an electric parking brake.

The e-parking brake is two terminals, reverse polarity to lock down or open up the parking brakes.

Heading to ATL tomorrow, back Thursday.
The hubs and rotors oiled, bagged and in my car. They're gonna wind up on your porch at some point. Probably Tuesday. I'm just gonna say fuck it on returning the rotors. You can have them.

The next axle sleeve tube is gonna be late because I scrapped the part and there's a new one in the mail.

Well, how much were the rotors then?

Don’t worry about it. I just want all this stuff off my plate.

That is a question we try to avoid on sites like this.
Yeah, yeah.

So I bought a $900.00 6L80E from a friend of mine. The vehicle it came out of has 197K miles, good clean fluid, shifted and drove well. When he pulled it, reman'd converter and GM reman stickers on it. So no idea when it was done, but I am probably just running it as is.

This weekend, will end with both the front and rear axles ready to go in.

I have to build rear caliper brackets, cut off the spring pads and one shock mount.

I have rear spring pads, new shock mounts to go in, on CJ8 spring spacing of 36" on center.

So, building the 60 front today, waiting for my son to get bearings, since someone left them in Massholeachusetts :flipoff2: ... also, Rock Auto has my Dodge slip fit rotors delivering tomorrow.

Then all I need is a long side axle shaft, that is 4" shorter for a Chevy Dana 60. I ordered a bunch of stuff through a vendor here, but apparently, he dropped off the face of the earth, after ECGS messed up a few orders... or maybe said vendor did, who knows?

I got that 6L80E today: it's 29 spline, so sticking this here, as a reminder to call: JB Conversions, Inc. to see if it works for my trans, can't imagine it won't, but...

Never knew they came in 29 spline... Giffin and I were both surprsed.

I have a 23 spline, 27 and 32 spline input for a Dana 300... sad eh?

Well, I ordered two inner chromoly axle shafts from Dutchmen. On 35" tires, this entire axle is over kill, but maybe I want to do 4wd burn outs?

Originally ordered the long side, from a vendor here, but they have been radio silent for a while now.
