Someone as a civilian would have to be a complete dumbass to travel to a foreign country at war with sole intentions of participating in a civilian activity. Even if I have never heard of the lousy bitch before, she simply played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.

News says she has been playing over there for 6.5 years. And she didn't know not to bring weed or weed oil into the country? I will take a stab that this wasn't her first time smuggling weed into the country. They can keep her jailhouse tatted, weed smoking, anti-American ass over there for all I care. She spent her small time in the lime light bitching about how bad America is while playing in a foreign country.

What does she have to do with the WNBA anyways? What is their bitch? Do they claim all female basketball players?
 
First I've heard of the story, and don't give two shits about who she is, but holy fuck. Less than a gram of cannabis oil? 9yrs seems very excessive, I'm sure they are just making a point with her.

I think everyone is missing the point

IF Griner has to stay in Russia and serve her (deserved) sentence, the WNBA would stand to lose tens maybe even hundreds of dollars in their upcoming season. This would add to the burden the NBA has in carrying the woman's (??) league, and may even mean that the NBA stars have to kowtow to the Chinese market even more or risk losing up to $129.00 in pay.

I would be all for this trade ONLY if the US releases every single person of color in this country doing 9 years or more for MMJ violations.

BS that Viktor Bout was even in prison. Ultimately he was a pawn used by the US to appease the Saudi's because Bout had essentially driven Kashoggi out of business. Not the journalist, his uncle, Adnan, who was THE arms dealer in the 70's and 80's, but he was cool because he sold US arms to the middle east and anywhere with enough dollars. When Bout started doing the same thing, he became a pariah because he sold Russian arms, and left the US military industrial complex in the cold. There is a lot more to this than will ever see the light of day. I know several ex-military folks who made fortunes working for Bout, or one of his companies in the 90's and early 2000's. Mostly ex- South African airforce and special forces guys, but also British SAS boys who went private

It is to be expected that the current administration will exchange not one, but at least 2 current Ruskies serving long sentences for killing Americans for her ass where as there are several other Americans that will remain in Russian jail.

Besides that, nothing really.

I thought I read somewhere that when he got caught, he had already gone into Russia like 12 or 13 times before.
So he definitly knew what he had was going to be big trouble if he got caught.
