What's new

Bourbon (if you know, you know)

im a Weller 107 fan. i feel its the best bang for your buck whiskey.

i think i had Stagg at a restaurant once, it was ok. I prefer EH Taylor Bottle in Bond single barrel.
This was my favorite when I could roll into Total Wine and snag a bottle of the bottom shelf for <$30 OTD.

Then the liquor snobs found out about it and it was harder and harder to get. Now it's virtually impossible to find out here.

One of my current likes.

You guys are way more high profile than me. Larceny Small batch 92 (not sure I believe in the small batch thing for the price) is my go to.

If I'm feeling crazy, I dip my toes into the $60 a bottle range. I really like this one, but not for twice the price of the larceny.

But I probably have the palate of the average farm animal.

Almost bought that tonight…. But it was $36 at the “expensive store… “. $60 seems insane

All I know about bourbon is that this is what my boss is getting for his birthday this year. (I was given a lot of help for what to buy for him lol)

That Evan is pretty solid and when I see it I buy it as a memory to the college days.

A buddy that's into bourbon recently bought a green label Evan bottle since they don't make it anymore. He was shocked when I mentioned how many we've probably been through being that it was cheaper than the black bottle.

I'm tempted to keep that second bottle of the Green River and give it a try.

Not a fan of Weller, got a bottle sitting in the closet. Eagle Rare is my top choice, Bulliet is the house bourbon. Buffalo trace is what we drink when we run out of Bulliet. We have EH Taylor, Blanton's, Willet, Wellers, Whistle Pig, Uncle Nearest, and probably 20 other bottles of bourbon of various brands. I had a bottle of Russel and it gave me the worst indigestion Ive ever had. Angles Envy Rye is my fav rye. One thing I've learned, price has nothing ti do with the taste of bourbon. The distillers are masters of marketing and pull some pretty good deals promoting various spirits regardless of taste. Remember, Buffalo Trace was originally a cheaper bourbon till it got popular and they quadrupled the price. I've got a bottle of Forged Oak, from the Orphan bottle series. At one time it was worth >$1200. Now its back down to $250. Was not impressed with it, its good, but not that good. Drink what you like, what ever fits you taste, and enjoy. And if you're going to ruin it by mixing coke with it, just use Black Label Evan Williams, dont waste teh good stuff.

My local liquor store owner is one hell of a nice lady and always squirrels away a bottle of Buffalo Trace for me. Any suggestions on a replacement for when she doesn’t have any?

Benchmark is similar to BT, and almost always available on the bottom shelf. It’s not quite the same, but it’s pretty close. They’re made at the same place.

Had a little last night with an 1865 Alma Fuerte

I collect about 10 bottles a year of various bourbons and rums. For some reason, my collection never grows beyond three bottles.
You're doing pretty good, I would buy a bottle of proper number twelve every night of the week and never had a bottle at a time:homer:.

Eagle rare is one of my favorites, I started drinking it when it was $23, and that’s a great price for a 10 y/o.
I buy as much of it as I can as long as it’s at retail, I’ve seen it as high as $149 and that’s ridiculous.

I did pay $125 for a 1.75 mil simply because it’s so huge, looks great on the shelf and I’ll probably never open it.

We went through a bottle of Garrison Brothers Balmorhea at deer camp opening weekend. I like it a lot. I just finished a bottle of their small batch.

They make some very good stuff, I think they just won very big blind contest in San Francisco IIRC

Fun time to be had if you ever get a chance to make it to the distillery.

I pour a few fingers once or twice or maybe three times.

In my late teens and 20s when I drank to get as drunk as I could. I never liked doing it the next day and the next day, Body just couldn’t handle it. I don’t like being rundown.

I last pulled the cork eight days ago.

:smokin: On the other hand, can’t really fall asleep in a reasonable time without a few puffs.

They say it interferes REM sleep, but when it breaks through REM goes into overdrive.

I only drink to see how drunk I could get :homer:, that's why I quit drinking...

Same with :smokin:, but that pretty much just takes the fire out of me though instead of letting me go wide ass open with whatever sounds like a good idea at the time.

I have not made it out there yet, but a buddy went a few years ago and brought me some cigars they made. They were fantastic and I wish I could find more.

Well on that note:

I’ve got a whole lot of firearms that I don’t need, I suspect you do as well.
I cannot equate whiskey bottles to firearms except to shoot the bottles with is about it. Well… drinking the whiskey out of them before blasting them :flipoff2:
