That is the cool old fuckers building North America thread:usa:

20s are really oddly low rated for how much tire they are.
tubes make heat

on the dismountable 22.5 wheels and tires, look for ones off an old school bus, they'll be narrow wheels with 10r tires, the bus guys want the wider 11r wheels for more miles an hour so they're cheap

I’ve noticed

Bald but not too bald 11R22.5s are free because that’s what semis use. The split ring rims are the harder part to find but I’m not exactly looking hard.

I'm casually looking for some 22.5 split ring rims because of how unavailable the 20" tires are. I've got six stocked up but who knows how good they are.

20s are really oddly low rated for how much tire they are. I think mine are 5-6k a tire depending on which tire I check. That's no better than 19.5s and not much better than 17.5s
I should take a picture of the old bias ply co-op 16 on my scrap trailer and a couple of the combine header trailers. They are from the 80s and still hold air, tube flap and all. We have a couple grain trucks with 20s that are pretty much of the same vintage and I have never had a blowout.
Every time we swap to a newer 16 truck tire on one of those header/spray trailers you get like 8 years on it and it gives up
I’d not be worried about old 20” bias tires making it. Send it.
Come to think of it my uncle built a drop deck with a single semi front axle and 10.00 20’s in the 80’s, thousands of overloaded miles, decades of use and sitting, same tires it started with. I’d swear tire manufacturers went to planned obsolescence before car and tech companies did

My semi runs only takeoff 22.5s except fronts. Split rings though? On a 20, yes. On a 22.5, never heard of. 2 bars and 10 minutes and tire is swapped on a 22.5/24.5.

Well then I'll stick with the 20s. All mine are from the 80s so they must be good.

I've never had a 22.5 come off easy with the cheap bars but I've also only ever pulled two off the rims. Seems like all the sandal wearers on youtube use two bars and all the westerners use the 6ft long special tool with the dog leg handle and rollers so I assume it's a technique thing.

open center demountable style wheels is what he's talking about
No I'm talking about split ring.

They make tubes to slap into 22.5s.

Off to Google I guess. Worked at a tire shop in HS and college some and never came across them.

Yes those are fucking bad ass, I am still using the two semi bar method but my buddy with the tire shop in town has those. I have not used whatever the red thing is, just the other two things with handles and they kick 10 kinds of ass

Does it actually work as easily as the video makes it out to be? Just lube tire and go to town with zero technique or finesse?

huh never seen them even in pictures
Maybe they don't exist. IDK, I haven't looked hard, just something I'm keeping an eye out for.

What tire size do they use over in the land of safety sandals? Seems like everything is split ring over there.

Look like Toyo m55's

Nah m55s have Chevrons down the middle.

And they're on 19.5s too so fuck that.

I'd like to find a good wearing heavy lugged tire like that, but there's no such beast. The m55s wore great until they turned to butter, and the center blocks are shallower than the shoulder tread blocks!
Good thing I've got a grooving iron:laughing:
I run 315/75/16 now in an AT, hopefully I'll get a bit better wear out of them than the MTs.
