What's new

Anyone had partial or whole mouth teeth implants? Dental tourism maybe?

Interested in this. Just had two root canals done. One was a redo from a year ago. Two replacement fillings and may need a root canal done on at least one of the replacement fillings. Not happy about redoing work already done and paid for.

waiting for arsewards to come in and say that the dental industry is controlled by tyrants that force anyone doing the work to pay a fee and have a slip of paper, but anyone can do it. :flipoff2::lmao:
I did a bone shard extraction cause my dentist didn't know wtf to do. Easy peasy. :flipoff2:Case canoe ftw.

TIDR:

Chipped front tooth from the claw end of a framing hammer.

No money, 90's, broke no insurance..Leave it.

Mid 90's money and insurance. Still get fixed che...Inexpensive. Dentist tells me the Inexpensive version will last 20yrs (Stateside Dentist) Cool, I won't live that long... About 2k

Six months ago. False tooth cap glued to a stud in my jaw falls out brushing my teeth. Decent money, good insurance.
Best Dentist I could find near me. Grinds the old stud down whith a fucking dremel, drills a fresh hole in the stud....some vudu shit, matched the color to existing teeth.

Dentist says good for 30 yrs...Surely I wouldn't be alive that long.

$250 Out of pocket.

Fuck, that was still long..

:flipoff2:

Chipped a tooth with a grinder a few years back. It was under $300 to fix.

Guy I worked with was looking at 50k worth of work here in canada.

He took a trip to south africa and got it done for about 2k plus flights and lodging and stuff.

He said they gave him the option of a plastic insert, or a piece of real human bone transplant. He opted for the human bone. I said to him "you're telling me you've got someone else's bone in your mouth?"

without missing a beat he said "I figured why not, since I've usually got my bone in someone else's mouth?"

He was happy and it all worked out.

YMMV!
I have cadaver bone for the 2 I have

Well prices are all over the place. I know a lot of times you get what you but one place says $15,000 to fix and the next place says no way it will be $30, 000 at least. Why the hell is there such a price swing. I'm talking about within the US and 100 miles or less apart.

That was one of the issues with the dentist I used. I went in and they done all the x-rays and shit said it would be this much. So I agreed and paid. Well that changed 3 different times. The dealbreaker was when they tried to add on another 2k because they couldn't find it. I paid up front in cash and had a receipt. It's like a constant upsale.
Ok so this is with me and my personal business practice. And please realize I am a specialist and not a general dentist. I literally only do surgery every day. You come in wanting/needing X. Unless your dentist calls me and says help me out on this one and is one I actually like, I start with a 3D scan. Not always, but if you balk at the price of that (consult is free, scan is ~250 which is actually really cheap), I know I’m not your doc for implants at that time. No big deal, I’ll help guide you but I doubt you’re paying my prices. I’m not cheap and definitely not after being the best price. If I come out cheaper than any of your other quotes, great. But I also give a set price after I see the scan. If I am wrong about something, I will eat that cost. No one likes costs to change. Unless something that is so far out of the norm that I had to do something wild to make it work and I will let you know this is what is needed and will discount the addition as much as I can. Only ever happened once to me.

I only use the best parts. Even though there are knockoffs, I have the best support for having everything needed day off surgery and 20 years from now when the knock off is no longer made. Trust me, it makes a difference. I place in you, what i want in myself.

I also try to help people in the sense that once we start talking multiple tooth replacement, at a certain point the price is so astronomical, I start charging a set time or case price. That means as many or as few implants it takes to make it right. I may only get 4 implants in X person and 7 in Y. Ya’ll both paid the same but I probably spent more time on X doing something else to make it possible and it just seems to even out and makes it much simpler for everyone. But again, I tell you X, it will cost X.
Well it's the same for a local one. I mean you can go and talk to them and they sale it to you good. After you pay and they start the work they got you.

Insurance will usually only pay a very small part. So most of it is customer pay out of pocket and up front.
I actually am out of network with all but one insurance but will help you file. I don’t sell my work, I provide the best care and experience I possibly can and stand behind it.
hey OutlawRider , I have a question regarding implants that I have always wondered about. People experience gum recession with their natural teeth. How do you handle that with implants? How do you obtain a correct connection between the gum tissue and the implant so that the gum does not recede?
1) I use the best implant systems
2) I do everything necessary to make the site ideal for long term stability (thick bone won’t let the tissue recede)
3) I have the skill set to fix recession on teeth or implants. That is another big part of my practice hence under my name.
4) After crowns are placed, I have a follow up appointment to check everything and fix anything that won’t be beneficial long term to my implant. You can also get an apt for free at anytime for me to check it out, even 20 years down the road.
It's really hard to get good/reliable info about the ones that do Implants. I mean I'm looking at spending 15k-40k to have this fixed in the US. I don't want to spend 40 and be in the same position I am in again 2 or 3 years from now.

Do have a question for the dentist.

I know this is a real general question but on average is it easier to get a whole arch implant right or a partial right?
Seriously, reach out and I am beyond happy to address your case to the best of my ability and work something out with you if it can help you.

Describe partial? I prefer keeping as many good natural teeth as I can. But if they are questionable at all, I’ll let them go for a better long term prognosis. Not sure if that makes sense or not with your question. But full arch vs partial isn’t really harder one way or another just depends on the case itself.

Where ever you go and whoever you decide to go with if you get any bad vibe at any point just walk away. I know that's a hard pill to swallow but it's what I'm going through now.
I went in for a consult and images doctor dentist say it's gonna be this much.
Ok pull the money together go in the first red flag for me was the sedation.
I told him I needed to be asleep.
"We got you." The gave me a prescription pill that made me nod off for a minute before they came in and started going to work on me. I should have gotten up out of the chair and walked away then. After all of the healing was doneish I went back in for a check up and the first implants. At that time he said I could use two more and it would be another 2 grand. Again, should have walked away. He sold it with " oh we couldn't see what we see now in the first scan."
They,He did the exact same scan to determine that I should have more implants. And that I would also need a bone graft to make em work.
Welp bone graft and 6 more months of healing and then two more Implants I went in to have the final dentures made and fitted. As I got in there I let him know that it felt like the graft had come away from the jaw and the implant was loose, not the implant its self but something under the gums. Low and behold a second graft now and 6 more months of healing and he'll try again.

So like I said in the beginning if you catch a weird vibe or something seems off just leave. I wish I had. I'll be into it 2 plus years before I see any results. And the new dentures fit like ass. Pay more money for a real expert. Not a car salesman.

Are they charging to redo the grafts?

OutlawRider

Random person comes in and needs a single implant... as straight forward as it can be. Whats it cost?
I tell everyone for the whole thing crown and all (I don’t do crowns) to budget 4-5k. That includes sedation, extracting, grafting, crown, abutment, and follow-up care. That being said, the less of that you need, the cheaper it gets. But I can’t see anyone getting out for cheaper than 3k (at full fee service for services).

Not this time.

But I'm sure if this one doesn't take they'll be trying to charge for the next time.
I’m always interested in seeing how others practice. I don’t understand how regular dentist make implants worth it minus just using cheap stuff. The overhead on the implant parts alone is crazy. I’ll redo anything I need to, but I usually don’t have to do it makes it profitable. To redo a lot of work cuts out the profit in a hurry.

What makes them the best? Material, design, surface finish, or ??????

How is gum recession addressed - for natural teeth or implants?

Gum recession, depending on how bad, get a good expensive Sonicare toothbrush and floss, Mine wasn't terrible, starting to recede and it reversed itself with taking better care of my teeth. I also upped my teeth cleaning to 4 times a year.

I just had 5 teeth yanked, and 6 fixed. $5900 bucks or so.. I hate the dentist man. Im a total child when it comes to needles and stuff.
I'll need to get something to replace the removed teeth and some point but im tapped out for insurance and money to fund this stuff. Maybe I should look into black market dental work.

I cant remember the name of the med they gave me, was sold to me as you'll be on autopilot, lucid and wont remember everything. Lyin ass liars. I remember ever detail from the amount of shots they gave me, what color tie he had on that day and wanting to climb out of the chair because part of the root canal hurt so god damned bad.

Yea I don’t play those games. I put an IV in. I Can actually titrate it and put you under.

A few things. You are correct, better quality titanium to resist fracture and better milling properties. Design so a lot of platform shift to help move biological width more coronal, threading at the correct spacing as to promote bone attachment over soft tissue attachment, and surface coatings that allow faster and better osseointegration. And just better overall company support later on down the road.

Honestly like Honda vs Predator. The predator is a close and the R&D cost is nothing for them as they only clone, not make anything new. But the Honda will have better features, will be better supported for parts in the future, and should last longer with better tolerances and materials. The difference is, when the cheap implant goes bad, it costs wayyyyy more to replace since you are going to most likely need to reconstruct the area.

I fix gum recession by taking tissue from the roof of the mouth and placing it where tissue is missing. That is the very simplified idea of what is going on.

This is what I wanted. That stuff freaks me out so I wanted to be out cold. No deal, they dont do it blah blah blah. I spent 4.5 hours in a dentist chair that day. 5 teeth yanked, instead of the 4 he originally wanted to do, a root canal, and 6 fillings. Oh, and half of a deep clean. I need to go back in for the other half apparently.
Also, whats the deal with the blue filling used with root canals? I currently have the blue tooth. I guess people pay extra for that kind of technology.

Terrific information that the layperson will never get from WebMD.

Would you be able to list the 'good' manufacturers?

My biased:
1) Straumann
2) Nobel
2) Zimmer/Biomet
3) BioHorizons

The only ones I’ll use.
As for biologics such as grating material and membranes it can differ. Not that you will ever know but I tend to use Zimmer/Biomet products. But there are a few other top notch companies. Zimmer is a great company that does a lot of prosthetic implants for extra oral uses. But they are slow on their oral implant technology because it is such a small part of their sales. Great backing, just slow to update but really smart people working there.

No idea on a blue root canal?!? I don’t do RCTs personally. Haven’t done them since dental school.

I think What? has some recent experience south of the border with a dental tourism or medical tourism thing. Foggy, it's been a bit since we met up/rode/ had that conversation....
Yup, I go to Mexico for dental work, Much less expensive than in the states

Thread bump as I'm in this boat currently, they said about $50-$60k for a top/bottom full arch implant, or ~$4900/ea tooth-for-tooth, might be able to do a couple 'clusters' (I forget the word he used, groups of 2/3/etc) depending on bone.

Had the consult today and the initial opinion is that my bone density is about the best case scenario for him to work with, had CT scan done as well and consult with the surgeon later in the week to put a plan together. Will likely be full sedation and get one half yanked all at once. (likewise as was mentioned earlier, Xray/scan was about $600, waived if you keep the work within that practice)

Place has a great reputation and the guy has been doing it a long time, lots of (to me) credentials...

Sound about right, or anything else I should ask/look out for?

(also should add, a good friend of mine does dental lab work making crowns etc and this place is one of his accounts, he's been working with them for 15+ years and said he'd recommend him for sure)
