Amazon garbage

Who buys fuses from Amazon? Get a pocketful from the junkyard every time I go.
I think I have that kit he tested 🤣

Haven't been in a junkyard in over 20 years.

Did he test name brand fuses to see how they did? Without "controls" to.compare maybe they aren't that bad?

All he really said was Home Depot fuses are better. But he didn’t prove that in the video, maybe HD sells the same garbage these days🤷‍♂️

The only one in Anchorage scraps anything older than 7 years, and doesn't let anyone in the yard. :mad3:

I actually got laughed at for asking about 1995 ZJ parts. :shaking:

The guys that arent thieves
The pick-n-pulls around here let you have nuts, bolts, fuses and random value-less tiny **** for free as a sort of loss leader because:

a) they make far more money when people show up and pay a $2 entry fee and leave with **** that would be worth between $0 and $.10 when scrapped than they do when people buy that same **** brand new for $5 elsewhere.

b) more foot traffic = more sales. Some dude swinging by after work to pay a $2 entry fee for a pile of fuses can easily turn into a $50 impulse leather seats buy

c) If you're gonna kick people out for stealing cheap **** they're just gonna risk stealing expensive ****. In for a penny, in for a pound.

d) If you kick someone out you'll never make another cent off them.

e) it's better if people take random small bolts and brackets and plastics knowing they'll get them for free rather than ditch them because it reduces the speed with which garbage accumulates in the yard.

Source: Had this discussion with the lady who did/does manage Kenny-U-pull

INB4 DMG shows up trying to tell me that every U-pull is run by assholes like Harry's is. :flipoff2:

Around here it 100% is the norm to show up with a cylinder-head and a bucket of random small **** and wind up paying for the cylinder head and a $5 "small misc bracket" fee for the contents of the bucket.

The guys at my yard will laugh at you if you try to pay for fuses or a relay or random hardware. They never charge me as long as I'm buying other stuff. I figure it that's what the $3 entry fee pays for.
Exactly.

I don't think so. I bought a dipstick and tube, spark plug heat shields and some of those buss bars from the early 90s chevys. I only got charged for the dipstick and tube.

Yup, that's about how it goes.

I search for the specific name brand things I want, find them shipped/sold by amazon, and buy them. Anything else, especially if I can't pronounce the brand, I know full well going into it that it will be junk, but that's ok in some circumstances...like do I really care if the vacuum bag is a slightly tight fit? or the nitrile gloves are 5 mil instead of 6 mil?
I usually look up what I need on RockAuto to get the actual OEM part number. I then compare the OEM part price with shipping from them against Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. Whichever one comes out cheapest in the end is the winner. You have to be careful with the eBay parts, though, as sometimes they are fakes.
But but but with Temu you KNOW you're going to buy complete crap.:homer:
It all depends on the price point. Anything that is too cheap to be true is generally crap. I got a decent 3/8 inch drive impact socket set from them a couple months ago that seems to be on par with the upper lines found at harbor freight, yet half the price of their stuff.

We have or had a few pick and pulls here but they are closing down one by one. It's their own fault really IMHO, they don't charge an entry fee but will charge 75% of new price. The last time I went to one was for a XJ door shell. I had it and a bag of random fasteners, fuses and misc. crap. They told me $175 for the door and $20 for the bag. I left it all right there and I haven't been back to one since.

It's a real shame because I always loved to spend half a Saturday prowling those yards.:shaking:

Glad you all can still find parts in junkyards, here Jose and his cousins pick it all clean.

Stopped going a long while ago.

Yep, and they destroy everything around the part they take because they only use 3 tools. Prybar, hammer, and channel locks. Even if they didn't need to destroy it, I think they do it for sport.

Rock Auto's shipping sucks, but their catalog is pretty decent and they have a nice selection most of the time. Great for grabbing a part number and searching Amazon and getting it cheaper and with free shipping. I do it for work all the time.
Yes, rockauto shipping is terrible. Twice in the laste few months I had my cart all ready, went over it once more to make sure it was all there, and checked out only to realized the next day they had left one or 2 items out of my order like I never had them in the cart. No warning that it was out of stock or something like that. I go check and it's still in stock so that wasn't it. Didn't get any help from them. Considering how much I would have to pay in shipping to get the part and that they wouldn't modify my existing order I am pretty frustrated with them.

I am cautious with amazon and tend to assume the stuff on their is counterfeit. I don't order parts from them too often and inspect it closely when it arrives.

Kinda the same around here. I use to enjoy just walking around but everything is so expensive now I rarely go anymore. **** was also so picked over that I could rarely find what I was looking for. Same cars that were picked clean would be there for years it seemed.

There use to be a place when I first started getting into cars/truck way out in the middle of nowhere. Probably 20 acres of stuff and it seemed like you could find just about anything out there. There were horses and goats walking all over as well. I use to love just going out there and walking around and bull****ting with the owner who was about 150 years old. He just sat and drank beer all day.

Good times and a different world. Now everything is corporate owned it seems.

I will say that I have the exact same fuse set that the guy tested! LOL I never even thought of grabbing random fuses from a junkyard. Although I may have tossed a few driveline bolts in the bag back in my youth. Now days, I would be afraid of getting a theft charge on me and losing my job over $10 in bolts. :homer:

I think im switching from buying my no name cheap garbage.

Buying it on Temu costs 25% of the same **** on amazon. You just have to spend 15$ min for free shipping.

Temu is the cheapest of the cheap from China. I ordered a $6 light fixture to test it out. I literally got a 3" miniature version of a light fixture. The pictures show it as least 15" tall.

Recently tried out one of those PWM controllers off scamazon. Rated for 40 amps. Under around 10% load, the wide copper strips on the back of the board fried. Looked like they might be good for 5 intermittent amps.

I've always had the same feeling about Amazon since it showed up. Doesn't feel trustworthy.

We have what was a pick-a-part then an LKQ and now it's something else. They will Nickel and dime you for every nut bolt washer clip that might still be attached to the part. I have left several things at the counter.

Now we have another place that I assume is laundering money. It's all Nigerians and they don't care what's attached.

And the LKQ type yard prices are often half of what you can go the part brand new for with a warranty. And the people at the desk try to charge you for whatever part is the most expensive and looks similar unless you have the same skin color they do. I've had to argue and show them on my phone what the part is the prove it to them and get the right price. Complete BS. Unless it's discontinued or something else I quit going.

I bought an EcoFlow River 2 power station that failed on my first camping trip out. Ok, it happens. Call the company when I got back and quickly determined that it was non-repairable and I could exchange it for a refurbished one that may or may not have cosmetic damage. I told them no, I have a brand new unit that has no damage and I won't take a scratch and dent.
So I asked for and received a refund.
Where the fun started is when I left a review. I gave them one star, not for the product, but for wanting to send me a marred unit.
They quickly emailed and said they would send me a $50 gift card to delete my review and I told them no, I just wanted to exchange like for like.
That went to $100 and I still said no. They then offered to send me a new River 2.
So I got a free power station, retracted my review and used the money I saved to get the solar panel to charge it while camping.
So far the replacement works great.
Cool story bro.

We get royally ****ed with shipping, so that's one HUGE benefit of Amazon.

I get "this is ridiculous" eyes from the post office when I get my dog's food.
Saves ~$10 and isn't even available locally anyhow.

And that is how ****ty products get good reviews. I have had that happen a couple times. I return it to get my money back and still leave the bad review.

Actually it isn't a ****ty product. I just got a bad one out of the gate and didn't care for their warranty policy.
But I agree that a lot of Chinesium products get glowing reviews this way.
