This reminds me of that scene in Gone in 60 seconds when the dude steals a car in China town and they make him realize if it was unlocked with the keys in it, everyone knows who it belongs to and they would be stupid to steal it.

As for trailers and out of state plates, I’ve lost track of the amount of semi trailers I’ve seen In the last few months with Indiana license plates

It was a 80% NO, 20% well a tow yard will just grab it and sell it so... which is why I came on here to see if my voice is lying to me, and it was
You keep bringing up tow yards. You are not a tow yard.
If a tow yard goes to get it, it does so lawfully after the police call the tow yard.
I don't understand how you being to make any comparison here.

Keep an eye on it, the day it disappears call the tow yards and see how much they want for it. That's the non-criminal way to do this.

How old are you?

tow yards are just legal thieves, fuck all those guys

Pay the fees, file the paperwork and start your own tow yard. Tow the trailer and sit on it for the appropriate time and file more paperwork and claim it as yours. Of course, it would legally have to be sold at an auction setting, but you could get a buddy to bid on it for you.

then Id still be a piece of shit thief, just a legal one.

Isn't that what you wanted?

nah. I wanted to pick it up like a 100 dollar bill that would never make it back to its owner. If I was gonna "steal", plenty of trailers at the yard we park.

I have tracked down a handful of abandoned stuff, hit a lot of dead ends and wasted a lot of time and money. Sometimes get some winners. Pay a private investigator $50-100 to get you the last registered owner and contact info, contact them and ask them what's up

Or, ask the property manager who it belongs to. You may get them to give you permission to remove it, in writing, then start the abandoned title process, where you immediately get an inspection locally, and with the Texas info we already have, they'll tell you to contact Texas, Texas will tell you to fill out some forms, pay $5-50, get you the last registered owners info, then you will mail them a certified letter describing the situation and your contact info. At this point you are storing it for free, and I highly suggest that you block it in and lock it down in a manner that somebody else doesn't steal it making it look like you decided to shortcut the process.
If the certified letter gets returned undelivered, you take it, unopened to your mvd and do more paperwork for the title.

People die, people get locked up, people don't care about their shit, businesses fold, etc etc

You can seek ownership of it in an ethical and legal manner, but you risk some money up front that you won't recover if they reclaim it in the grace period

Seeking the highest level manager of the parking lot, and telling him that you'll give him $250 cash on the back end of you're issued a title, might be the way this gets moving.

The 1st one I did was an 80s bronco some Mexicans dropped off at the pep boys I worked at in high school. They'd installed a fresh motor but threw away most of the wiring. The tech that got the job, actually the 1st hour of diag time, opened the hood and said it was a shit show and they need to come get it. It sat there 6 months. I didn't have any rights to it, the shop was owed an hour labor. The tech was owed an hour wages. I bought the tech lunch, he zeroed his time, the shop closed the ticket at $0. I filed the paperwork, they showed up on the very last day and fucked around for 6 hours trying to get it running, then put it on a dolly.

I was out maybe $50, but had a shot at a $3k truck. Some have worked out, it is what it is.

Tow yards don't go around randomly picking up cars.
Usually property owner calls cops, cops call tow truck. Or cops mark a vehicle for 3 day warning then tow.

I like the suggestion above, to contact who owns that lot. That person would be in a legal position to make a call to have it towed and since they have not yet done so, maybe they know the owner or the situation with it.

its a huge home depot/target/etc plaza, but I guess.hitting up managers is a start

I still say abandoned because some days therws like 4-5 tweaker RVs around it, I always figured its kind of nobodys juristiction out in that corner, so nobody monitors or cares about it. The impression I got from being there like 100 times.

Manager of target says its abandoned, and hes heard about them trying to remove it.

some RVs i spoke about.

the RV closest to it, says its been here forver, but sometimes he said a guy comes checks up on it. Not sure how true that is, but Ill leave a note attached

Who's the property owner/manager? That's who you need to talk too.
