Most of my toyotas are still RE's, and I know most people upgrade them to 2.7's or 3.4's. My 02 Taco has the 3.4 with about 225k on it. It isn't a power house by any means, and at some point in the future, its going to need to be replaced or rebuilt. Its not that I "Need" to replace it with something different (I have a spare 3.4 in a totalled 4runner sitting in the yard), but looking at options as an upgrade. What is "the" engine swap worth looking at? Or is the 3.4 that end goal?
I don't want to LS swap it. I don't need a diesel. I just want something with a little more low end torque that still gets decent mileage.

Build the other 3.4 with a blower. That would probably be the easiest way to get a little more power and no major mods.

I had considered that. Probably turbo'd since it seems the SC's are tough to tune at this elevation.
1uz/2uz.... hard to fit, but doable with auto or manual.

document it so I can plan for the future. :flipoff2:
May have to look into this...

GM 4.3 93-2008
GM 4.3 LT 2015-2021

I latter in my buggy and it rips. Had a 94 CPI 4.3 out of an S10 and it also ripped. Plenty of adapters to bolt up toyota transmissions. Much easier to fit over a UZ engine or v8.

isn't there a super charged version of the 4.3 as well? :stirthepot:

I wouldnt turbo a 3.4. A TRD/magnusen super charger would be much easier with similar numbers. Just bolt it on and go. They come up for sale all the time. I had one in a 4runner once and it ripped. And i hate the 3.4s

Disagree completely. They are extremely overpriced for the gains you get. New is $4k now, and Toyota fan boi's will over pay for used ones.

Yes they are easy and bolt on, but a decent turbo with the same boost will work much better for less than half the price.

forced induction on a 3.4 will suffer for mediocre performance without a stand alone ecu

Been a lil while. But everytime I started pricing together a turbo setup, it didnt take long to pass $2k

Were talking apples to apples? Because nobody does that with a super charger either. (OK exhaust is a fair point)
It doesn't matter.
A turbo needs the above to not blow up.
