22RE to 1.9 TDI Swap

Tdi just means turbo diesel intercooled no?

I thought they called them all tdi's, but you're probably right. Either way, they've had the tdi name for a while now.
Turbo Direct Injection.
The 1.6 were indirect injection where the fuel is sprayed into the precombustion chamber rather than directly into the cylinder.

There were Canadian spec Jettas that had a 1.9 mechanical IDI. My dad has one in his Samurai, and it's a cool engine and better than a sami 1.3, but I would be hard pressed to say any of the IDI ones put out more than a 22RE

I used to be a Toyota fan boy. Had a big crawler on 37s. The 22RE with 5.29s went decent. Probably not a great choice at altitude or in a mountainous area.

I did a 5VZ swap on a stock 4Runner...underwhelming for the cost and work.

I drive an S10 with a 5.7, fuck all of this high dollar sub par just good enough shit. You know what is nice? Costs practically nothing to make a 5.7 work in a TBI S10. It fits. It's a V8. It sounds good. It just works and practically nothing is custom. Literally could be done in a weekend.

Good luck with the holy grail search for power in a Japanese mini truck.

Although I will say the 16v in my Samurai ripped pretty good.

Mentions underwhelming and tbi 350 in the same post :flipoff2:

5vz is a good swap for a 3.0, almost bolt in. They make decent power if you Rev them.

But over all, I agree with you.

Toyotas aren't even cheap anymore.
