Time to kick this one off I guess.

I got a scare last Saturday when a 7 acre fire started under 5 miles away. Current rumor mile is logging equipment started it... with a strong leaning toward 'meth heads fucked around in the area':homer:

Good, bad, or indifferent... logging company has been hitting my area hard once winter broke. Trucks head in/out well before 6am in the morning:eek: It also sounds like clearing/thinning is happening the property to the north of me. Even with this work, I'm prepped and working on more yard hardening this year.

Hopefully those that are in the areas are 'playing safe' and staying safe.

I drove through there a couple of days before the start date listed, I saw smoke from a fire north east of there, east of NM84 (abiquiú area) but couldn’t find any info on the fire I saw. Kinda weird to be getting fires now since it’s not been dry in the area, the peaks are still snow covered, and we are getting river flooding warnings.

I do see farmers burning their fields though, so maybe one got away. I would expect the cidiots to be starting shit on fire this weekend with the holiday weekend though:shaking:

Hopefully many of these where ever fire strikes.

Godbless all fire victims.

We have had 3 little ones (.1 acre) in the county since Sunday. Two were lightning strikes, 1 was ditch burning. We have had rain and snow the past 2 weeks too, just seems weird to have anything burning with it being as cold as it has.

Things are really drying up here in the Northern Colorado Mountains. We had some pretty good winds last night, but should be calm this weekend.

I'm hoping this La Nina weather pattern they are forecasting is wrong...

I don't have a drop of property insurance and can't get it...

I'm in a tinderbox and offgrid and blah blah blah.

Lots of folks up here have had theirs cancelled as well.
You don't fit in the box for them to write. It sucks.... but think how much you are saving!

Your state doesn't have some special government insurance like CA?

I'm not sure how I could do it if uninsured, it would crawl on my mind all the time. Like not having a gun or fire extinguisher or not wearing a seatbelt.

So if your home is worth realistically 200g. And state insurance is 14g a year. At what point do you roll dice? Serious question.

That's exactly the question I raised before in another homeowners thread. What % of your home as a price for insurance crosses the line?
Obviously if you can buy your house after paying 10 years of insurance it's not worth it, and obviously if it takes 100 years then it is worth it.
I imagine the number changes from person to person. It would be interesting to hear a bunch of people say where they draw the line.

Agree with you in this instance. As I continue to pay homeowners and auto insurance 😆💖

Are you physically in the Bobcat fire burn area? Or did that miss your part of storm mountain.
Bobcat burned from Drake almost to Masonville.

2000 so before your time up there maybe?
Bobcat Fire Colorado
I'm actually at the southern line of the Cameron peak fire. Right where Storm and Cedar Park Dr intersect. Word around the campfire is they created a back burn to stop the fire and used the Cedar Park as the line which is what burned my buddies house on Meadows....

Bobcat was before my time and south of me.

A lot of what is surrounding me has already burned, but is ripe for another one. These dry days are not helping anything.

Copy.

I cleared a bunch of brush during Bobcat. Which I have kept clear. In the almost 30 years in Redstone Canyon we have had
-Bobcat, very threatening until the wind changed and blew it back on itself. Stayed west of Masonville
  • Christ Mountain. Within 5 miles on the north of the canyon
  • random lightning strike fire within 1 mile but I drove the fire dept guys up there in the Jeep
  • the fire that started near the school up Buckhorn that burned through Rist Canyon 85kacres
  • Cameron Peak fire. Oct 2020. Burned house to the north and house to the south of us. We survived.

And we could burn again now with another few weeks of heat and wind.

Farmer’s actually reduced my rates post Cameron Peak because I badgered them about us surviving when others burned. But with the massive increase in property values those rates have climbed again

It's dry enough up here to burn today. This summer is gonna be bad and I hope they put in a burn ban sooner than later.

Property taxes will be what runs me off this mountain...

Oroville California

I don’t know how you guys afford to live here in Colorado. Everything is expensive everywhere you go.

Oroville California

Rocky fire is at 800 acres

We’ve had a handful of smaller grass fires nearby. I worked on my defensible space today. I’m surrounded by acres of dry grass, and we’re under a red flag warning with north winds 😕.
