What's new

1993 AmTran Genesis Mid-Bus build.

Finished up fridge install today with a low voltage disconnect. Trimmed out the fan and added a power port.
We'll just install a fridge they said. It'll be fun they said.
5 days later. Holy crap.

305W of 710W installed. 1 more 305W going in to power the house charging system. Adding a separate 100w system to keep the starting batteries up. Should easily have the other 2 modules mounted tomorrow and then start on battery/controller mounting and wiring. Trying to take advantage of this weekends awesome weather to get the exterior stuff done. If the weather goes to shit in the next month or two it wont matter, we can crank up the heater and work inside on the rest.

Got us a fancy new flushable shitter (old one was cracked so couldn't run water to it).

Upgraded the drivers seat to something that has slides, armrests and actually reclines. Rear seat out of some mazda or something. It folds in half and makes a little table when camped out. :grinpimp:

Bathroom has just had all the chairs haphazardly thrown in there since we've had it. 30 seconds, 2 eye bolts, an old cam strap and now they have a home. And someone can use the facilities while rolling down the road if needed. No more chairs or humans falling all over and breaking the new shitter.:smokin:

Didn't know that was a thing.

Google shows those things are crazy $$$.

What model is that and what did it cost you?

its an older discontinued Dometic unit. Got it NIB off marketplace for $200. Dude bought it for his van, built that custom SS enclosure for it, then decided to go a different route.

Futons that came with the bus are the most uncomfortable damn things to sleep on ever. :flipoff: those things.

Gutted the passenger side today. Builder must have had a wood/screw/nail sponsor.

Get you a temperpedic knockoff pad, and slip it into the futon pad cover, or have the missus sew a new cover for it. Waaaaaaaaay better for sleeping, or even just sitting.

On the bunks, spend the little extra coin and get Twin XLs. Length of a King, width of a twin. Totally worth it after the second or third night.

Ain't got the room for even regular twins. Going with sleeper cab sized mattresses. Same size we used in the old bus and it's fine.

You can see in this pic that the PO had screwed carpet to the wall behind the futon and dinette. I've hated it since day one.

Yesterday in the demo I ripped it out. :grinpimp:

Today, I went in and cleaned all the galvanized walls with white vinegar, then rolled on a coat of almond Rustoleum. Sooo freaking much better. I'm happy. :smokin:

Makes me want to attack the entire ceiling that is dark coffee brown. Maybe soon...

Bunks are framed out and bolted in, plywood cut and painted.. Still need to get the mattress rails and head/footboards welded on but that can happen one day when its raining and we don't need to be moving back and forth between the shop and the bus.

Today we attacked the passenger captains chair. I did not expect this to kick our ass so bad. All we have to do is adapt a swivel base to the seat on top and the round fenderwell on the bottom right? RIGHT!

I think its gonna work. we probably cut and unbolted 15lbs of shit off the seat, and net-zero weight loss on swivel after hacking it to hell then welding it back together to fit around the fenderwell..

It was pushing 100* today so I worked on finishing bunks up.

Paint is drying now.

Found Rustoleum makes a "etched glass" rattle bomb. Did the windows behind the bunks so people camped next door dont have to see my ass pressed up against the glass when its hot. Came out better than I was anticipating..

We got the dinette bench built yesterday. didn't take any pics.

With any luck this round of construction will be done tomorrow! :smokin:

Well I'm not going camping with you then, you just took away the highlight of a camping trip.:flipoff2:

Looks good. It's in the 80s here and I'm dying, supposed to be triple digits next week.:mad3:
