1991 Snow Tracker Build

I took this back down to Ben Franklin Range today. Hit all the same obstacles as before and it just walked over them. Wife only got one video as it started raining and she was done getting out of the car.

Definitely ready for Kansas and Missouri.

Well after SMORR I decided this front end is coming out and the open diff is going back in.

The ideal set up would be an ARB in this Samurai 3rd member. Run it open until you need a little nudge over an obstacle, engage, then disengage after you clear it.

Oh well, I gave it a whirl.

I might. I don’t know. Only thing that’s certain is I don’t want to spend anymore money on it.

How much would the toy cv mod be in total?

Are the 86-95 toyota cvs available around you? Or would it be parts store only?

Seems like you put the time and money into the locker, Sami diff and reinforced housing, toy cvs should make it pretty decent for 32s

That Toyota CV kit is like $550, and then I would have to buy Toyota CV’s from Rock Auto.

Or I can just keep returning o’Reilly CV’s.

Dang, it was about half that when I bought it :(

Hard to justify $750 or so for all that.....

Too bad no one makes just an upgraded cv.

Edit: gotta love Mr hegans low buch approach to everything

Kinda a wierd one, but would be damn near free

Just do that.

Add a Rockauto into the mix (return it as if it's an O'Reily when it breaks) so you can get out ahead of it (i.e. have a good spare on hand)

On my old F150 I used to bend Autozone drag links after about 5-8hr fucking around off road. I'd bend the bent one back to finish the day and when I got to the road I'd swap the one behind the seat on. Then I'd return the bent one at the store and stuff it behind the seat.

Funny seeing this. Purchase day to today after the midwest.

I actually have a Rock Auto to return as well.

I think even vatozone has gotten savy to guys just breaking stuff and swapping it out. Of course it probably depends on the turd behind the counter.

Depends a lot on the situation. They used to have no discretion to refuse you now they have some but I've never run afoul of it.

I’ll run it a couple more times, or until I get tired of replacing CV’s.

Jack up the center, put T case in N, lock hubs and make sure the Vatozone CVs don’t bind at full droop. I know they do on mine. Troy (black with turquoise cage) has to not run the strut spacers so his doesn’t bind up.

Good point, I had to limit strap mine with the gm struts to avoid binding.

After figuring out the parts store CVs bind I cleaned, regreased and rebooted my OE shafts. Shit I bought a parts Tracker just to have a spare set of OE green bands.

Oem >>>>>>>>>>> parts store

Pretty sure I partially broke a vatozone cv on my 96 4runner just going up a sandy hill the other day. Need to get some oem ones for sure.

Question is, where to find OEM’s for these anymore? Ebay?

I have one OEM I need to reboot and grease. I don’t have a reboot kit or grease, so it’s just been laying on the shelf.

My 1996 red 4 door has an OEM passenger CV on it. Going to steal that and run it. I got an OEM for the driver’s side on the shelf to reboot. But those don’t seem to break as frequently for me.

I officially tapped out on this and posted it for sale. Too many projects and need cash to fund the buggy build.

I told him the same thing. I said what are you going to wheel when it’s cold out? He’s above it now that he’s a rock fucker snob. :lmao:

This hasn’t wheeled in the cold since the Turkey Shoot…and that sucked enough for me to not want to do it again. :flipoff2:

I’m getting old and don’t like hanging out in the cold anymore.
