1973 Pontiac BBK help

I run 2” spacers on front of the race ranger, swinging 35” rubber. I’ve run well over 1000 miles off road in a ~4000lb truck and never had an issue. I do run 9/16” studs to the spacer and 5/8” holding the wheel on though.
Step up to 3/4 or 1” and send it. Unless that puts tires into the fender of course.
But yeah, go up to 18” wheels to avoid the whole mess if you’re replacing anyway.

How much material is coming into contact with the caliper still? I'd be looking at sanding some meat out of the wheel spokes. Hit it with a few polishing pads if you care what the backside of the spoke looks like. Paint up the backside of the spoke with blue sharpie, clamp a sheet of sandpaper to the caliper to protect the paint, apply light pressure to the wheel and rotate to mark sand location? If it's more than 1/8" or so of material that'd need to be removed, maybe a different spacer.

What's the rest of the car look like?

18" Weld Ventura does NOT fit, 0 offset

Gonna order the 1" spacers next

this is a bit of a headache

maybe take some measurements to determine the offset/backspacing you require and search for rims that would meet your needs

Or get something like this

Negative offset would be great, but having a hard time finding that

Spoke profile also an issue, but cant measure that

Are hub centric spacers a must?

got some 1" stud centric, have extra room, may try a 20mm.

Not really. You can always have a machine shop make a centering ring for you when you get it all setup. I have never done that and have always ran 2 1/2 rear spacers and 2" up fronts on our wagon before i tore it apart again.

Now that the spacers didn't work, aren't you glad you didn't order a different set of wheels with the same specs in mind?:flipoff2:

All kidding aside, you didn't really mention your motives in the OP, but from the context since then I gather you are trying to make it work ASAP and are not necessarily trying to do this the "right" way.

You can keep shooting in the dark on spacer thickness and you might even get lucky on your next guess. The best thing to do is measure with one of the mock-up tools posted above.

The mockup tools wont work because I have NOT been able to find exact inner wheel dimensions from various manufacturers. So its really a spoke clearance issue and trial and error.

1" works, but I will try 20mms and see if I still have acceptable clearance. Then Ill order a custom steel spacer from https://motorsport-tech.comwith just the right amount. I only want as much spacer as I need, nothing extra

Thanks for helping with this saga of mine

get 18s. That is what I had to do for my 74 ventura with corvette calipers. Everything I read said 17 would fit, but they did not. Tried spacers and didnt like that so just posted them on FBMP and ordered 18s

18s i got didnt fit either

what 18s did you get?

20mm spacers are good good clearance, but had to cut the studs pretty short to not protrude past the spacer.

I used blue loctite, BUT I torqued the 1/2 studs at 80ftlb to the spacer, not fsctoring the loctite acting as lubricant. Should I reapply the loctite and retorque at 65-70ftlb? I dont want to overstress the 1/2-20 studs

Thanks

says nothing about tq, but generally have read to lower tq 10-15%

am i oveestressing the 1/2 lugs at 80ft with loctite lubing the threads?

or I am beinf retarded for worrying?

dont want to lose a wheel.

You are using the wrong lock tite

Your going full retard brother. Honestly I have never used locktite. I actually use stock studs on short spacers and then Arp for 1.5" or larger. I antiseeze my studs and ugga dugga them shits. I religiously use torque check paste on anything that i work on. Even have a color coded system so i can foot the blame.

I have never had to cut the car studs to clear the wheels but as long as you have two or three threads past the lugnut it should be fine.

Use torque check paste if you want a quick way to verify if the bolts are loose. White out works in a pinch but is super thin.

Just noticed the wheel studs are completely different on left vs right side

whats this p214 thing?

Hmm, it was pulling right when braking before and i figured its the caliper, but still the same.

sticky rear wheel cylinder? bad/dirty Tee for the front?

Steering tight otherwise? Shocks good?

new shocks, steering box, knuckle and out. Old master. Just got aligned. Pulls to the same side. I was 100% sure it was a caliper, but these are new high end stuff..
