What's new

1500 dollar CJ7 “Uncle Joe”

Been pretty busy at work so haven’t had much time to work on my own junk. Currently working on a new 4400 chassis that’s all tig welded.

But I did find some time this weekend to weld up the fish plates on my hopefully final set of motor mounts.

Nice build!!!
Wish I had your "janky shocks" lol
Your hood is awesome. Made me start looking for one just to see, but no luck finding them. Are they still available?

Campbell enterprise still makes them! Just have to call to get one shipped when I ordered mine they had to order them from the manufacturer. Shannon Campbell is also using one on a CJ7 he’s currently building but it’s a little different design.

Finally got the motor mounts in to the point I’m happy with them we will see if the motor lines back up. Also pulled out the rear of the wiring in preparation for cutting the fire wall out to fit the motor. Starting to get a clear picture of how I’m going to set up the cradle for the trans mount and rear link mounts but I need a few days and space to take the body off again and line it all up.

Lots of progress over the holidays since the boss has been gone but I also had to take off for 6 days so haven’t gotten as much as I would have liked done. Started off by finishing up the motor mounts the bottom pieces I made to box them in where a pain in the ass to form but I got them close to the same at least.

Once that was done I put the actual motor in the rig since all the mock up blocks are currently in cars

From there work started on the transmission mount for that I just did a few simple tabs out of 3/8th plate utilizing our existing trans bracket

Sadly my hammers trip didn’t go as planned due to a bad installation of the torque converter to the back of the motor we sheared the bolts holding it all together at about race mile 15. Live and learn I guess.

But now that hammers is over it’s time to work on the jeep again. Threw in some tubes to hood the rig at ride height and make it easier to move around today!

Fun little project today since I’m running spidertrax 6.5.5 unit bearings in the front with 5/8th studs I needed to do something about the rear. Drilled out a set of Yukon hubs and pressed in a set of studs from summit racing.

One step closer to doing the stretch going to put a .156 wall 1.750 tube under it tomorrow that will tie into the motor mounts and the subframe. Had to use hot rolled 3/16 blast bar because I couldn’t fit these parts on a 5x5 sheet of steel. Muriatic acid isn't the best for pulling the mill scale off but with a little elbow grease, it came off. Needless to say these will be getting a lot of primer when it comes time to paint😂

and this is where I stopped for the night. Installing the hubs tomorrow and the lower link mounts so I can finally get rid of the castors before they fully give up on life😂

It’s time for the Saturday update! Making good progress this weekend cut out all the sheet metal you don’t need for a badass jeep. Welded up most of the subframe and the sliders so I can put it on a lift again. Other than that just starting to plan out how I’m going to make the transition from frame to tube for the back half of the rig so I can cut the frame and complete my 4 link.

I also need to start looking at how I’m going to mount my rear shocks. Being that I have a 14inch coil over and a 16inch bypass trailing arms were the original plan but since my links are so short and most trailing arm Jeeps don’t seem to work well. (In my opinion anyway) I’m considering more of a short course style set up where only the coil over is on the trailing arms and the bypass is on the axle. Maybe I can shoot for 16-17 inches of rear travel usable.
