Pilots! Recommend me a good book please.

A kid is graduating and his goal is to become a pilot. He'll be heading off to college and then whatever.
I'd like to get him a good book for a graduation present that pertains to his passion and goal of becoming a pilot.

Any of you flying people happen to have a favorite to recommend that would be good for someone in his position to read?

Of course.

Sooner or later a few pilots might finally chime in, if they do.

As of right now, I'm leaning to "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge" since it's material is used for the FAA exam.
But perhaps one of the flyers here will have another suggestion that's less heavy and little more useful.
 
"I Could Never Be so Lucky Again", The Autobiography of Jimmy Doolittle, its my favorite book, period! Bob Hoover's "Forever Flying" is a close second. Ben Rich's "Skunk Works" is right up there too.

check out your local CAP squadron
tons of knowlage, opprunities, and free aurplane time just for being a cadet

also the Airforce spoils the kids with really cool stuff

Old school pilot guy recommended that one as well. Guess it's been around and had a rep for a long time now.


Lot of excellent suggestions. Even though I'm not into flying I might grab a book or two to read for myself.

This. The Eaa show is absolutely awesome to attend if you are an aviation enthusiast. You can spend all week there and still not see everything!!
 
Air Force.

Try and get into ROTC. Need to be an officer to be a pilot, but it's the widest range of flying with free training.
They have the best housing and nicest conditions in all the branches.

No other place will give you the opportunity to fly fighter jets, but cargo and rotary are always options.

Easy to land a commercial job as a pilot afterwards.
