As if it aint been discussed 100 times already... yes I seen the other thread that is 5 years old too. Got a 2000 ford dually I pull with that has factory size tires on it. What are you dually guys having the most luck with? Put Michelins on it last year and the rear tires are already low on tread after 5-10k miles. Pretty upset with the way they have lasted and looking for something better.

Time to chase a harder rubber compound imho.

Goodyear, Toyo, and Nokian have been my go-to tires for the last 15 years. In every case, a higher weight capacity rating than stock or required.

The last Michelin 235/75R16's my Pops got for his '79 C20 were a positively a plush-riding, soft tire made for comfort and low noise - not endurance or hard use.

I use a Goodyear duratrac 235/85/16 with 1/4" spacers on every truck I own except for the square on that I have 37" humvee tires.

It would be nice to find a wheel with more offset so a taller tire can be run without tires making contact.

This has to be the issue with mine also.

maybe something like the nitto dura grappler, bridgestone duravis(several styles), toyo m655, CT,

basically id look for something marketed at the commecial market.

What about some 19.5 alcoas?

Just throwing it out there, I have never run 19.5s on a pickup but your gonna have to balance ride quality vs tire lifespan on that.

I ran 19.5 singles on a work van, because it needed them.

I wouldn't do dual 19.5's if it's a pickup, and it rides unladen, ever.

I’ve got Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on the dually. 4 years, 51k miles on the set and I'm at 7/32 of tread depth. Noiser compared to new but not bad. New tread depth was 13/32, so I should get right around 70k on this set with good rotations. Hard to complain about that tire life on a heavily loaded dually. 30k of the 51k miles have been hooked to my enclosed gooseneck according to the trailer odometer

19.5 ride fine till they dont.
I had them on my dodge and needed them with the utility bed on it. With a pickup bed they rode just like maxed out 235/16.

Right up till they take a **** and they run out of round/balance.

Yep - utility bed is a fair bit heavier than a pickup bed. I hate the ride of an empty dually pickup with 16's or 17's as it is.

Why the **** are you running a spacer on 235?
:lmao:

These required a spacer but yeah if you are dumb a 325/85 will go on a 16x6 alcoa dually rim. Not reccomended for doing anything useful, or driving it anywhere. And you have to align the side lugs so they interlock on rear with a 1.5" spacer.

I run 315s on my crewcab with a spacer.

255/75s will fit no spacer.
235 80s are stock on sqrs no spacer

I did rage a lil bit of a boner cause i found 255/100 xlm's on ebay, not cheap but big and narrow.

Newest set on my dually are the new bfg hd in 255/80/17 flavor. I'm liking them more than the 3 sets of toyo at3 I had on before in stock 235's.

My next set on the 2500 will be some Sailuns.
I've been using their stuff on trailers, then my 1500 and I'm super happy with the products.

They say that their knowledge is coming from the semi truck world and I believe them. They often offer higher load ratings for the same size then most of the competitiors.

This is what I'm going with

This is their range

I have the best service from these but haven't tried them on a dually. TerrainContact H/T I have also tried Yokohama, Kumho, Goodyear, Firestone, Bridgestone, and Michelin. I got the most tread life from the Continentals and never had one get out of round of the three sets we ran. Second best were Yokohama and the worst were Goodyear and Firestone.

Just returned from Discount tire.
LT 235/80/17

I installed the same General HTP’s from Discount in November, and they have been great. I needed tires ASAP as my front right OEM Nexxen almost separated the tread. Nexxen’s made it 17k.

They tow and ride great. Only issue is the load rating might be a little light for the front.

Total weight a little over 28k.

Should have better luck with a more highway tread if you can get away with it. Even at's just cup really fast unless you rotate constantly, which is super gay with these alloys that are different on each position :shaking:

Last truck I really tracked the miles with dually 17s was running Michelins ironically and wore awesome. Did you buy them through a place with good customer service? 'muricas/discount tire will usually have your back on something like that.

I'm looking at the BFG HD KT tires for my 2024 Ram 3500 Dually.

Will 245/70-17s fit in place of the stock 235/80/17s? They're only 3/8" of an inch wider total, so I'm thinking it won't be a problem.

EDIT: Realizing these are also about 5/8" shorter in height, so that's a no-go.

Next size up I'm seeing is a 255/75-17. That's 20mm, or about 13/16" widerand ~1/8" taller. Anyone running these on a dually, without spacers?

EDIT (2): Realizing now that anything wider than 235s aren't recommended on 6" rims (at least not BFGs)... Ugh, I'm just looking for a slightly larger tire, but it seems like the next sizes up would require new wheels also.

Ford runs 245/75r17s as the stock drw size. Should be extremely close to the 235/80s height.

That's not a truck size, 255/80r17 is what you want for 10 ply tires in that size range. I believe lots of people run them on dually's. I'd only worry about it if you plan to be near max wieght capacity often.

That's just corporate bean counters rules. Like you said, you're talking 3/8" for the 245s and 3/4" for the 255s.

If you want a little extra piece of mind, a 1/4" spacer should fit with the outside wheel still seating on the centering hub.

I run the 255/80/17 on my dually and there's room even loaded.

Discover HTs for a dually - excellent tires, good prices. Hercules H-901s or the IronMan equivalent for trailers/campers.

I know I comment this alot but we love the 255\85R16 and 255\80R17 in my family, not a dually but I run them on my wifes 03 ram 1500 and my dad runs them on his 06 ram 2500. His truck is pretty hard on tires being cummins\G56 quad cab long bed with a trailer hooked to it for work 90% of the time. Mastercrafts (made by cooper) have always been good to us and a bit cheaper than the coopers. Michelins wore ok but could get stuck in wet grass as soon as you let the clutch out. The biggest problem we have is we find a tire we really like then they replace it with something else after a year or two.

Oh and I'm tempted if they are still around when I need tires again to try venom power terra hunter in 255\80R17 with a 50k treadlife. That or my other truck could really use a set of 315\75R16 and they have the swampthing AT with 55k treadlife. I just never see them in real life other than bros with 33s and 22" rims sticking out a mile.

Have these on 07 dodge dually 5.9 g56 4x4 . 16120m so no real clue about longevity.

fleabay is where they came from.235/80/17 120-117R 10pr

Bfg commercial t/a traction is what i have. 235/85r16
But doesn't look like they are made anymore.

A bit light on weight rating though, only about 3000lbs a tire

I have those same tires on my F350. They are great tires and I have zero complaints. They ride nice around town, they handle my 34' enclosed no problem and the seem to be wearing like iron. Ive put 35k miles on mine and the tread still looks great with lots of miles left. 10/10 would buy again.
