Future of KOH 4400 chassis/car development?

well i should have said not utv based

When does your KRX 4900 build start?

If I had the garage space, mine would already be stripped down to the bare chassis planning for the build.

Potentially beating Jeremy McGrath would be pretty freakin cool too

Which one of those uses a complete drivetrain out of a stock production vehicle? How many parts on those two cars can be bought at a dealership and bolt right on?
Even you have to acknowledge that power train designed for soccer moms and the epa is going to be very timid compared to a power sports drivetrain.

Also, Jeep Trailcat.

i wonder if theres a warranty for mrjuicewhip?

I know this is racing and everyone keeps details close to the chest but I'd like to see some TECH on the winning car and (or V/S) the 2nd place car.

Weigh is a big one IMO
HP
HP to weight ratio
SXS 37" wheel and tire V/s whatever 2nd was running.
Wheel base
Width
Shock dia
shock length

For those not up to speed on a Can Am what's the drivetrain? I've seen it post 240 HP stock. What I'm asking is V twin, 3 cylinder, 4 cylinder? CVT auto, Manual or Can am UTV specific auto? Is it a normalish of road style tcase or is the rear diff built into it?

I LOVE that now everyones going to back up and take a harder look at what's the best 4400. I wish it was as easy as saying a lighter bomber with an ecotec, crazy light auto, 300 and 35 spline 9" was the ticket.......but its not that easy IMO.

heck even just a UTV 37 v/s a passenger car 37 is going to make a difference! UTV wheel and tire is likely lighter. Now you need less shock to control it bouncing at the end of the arms right?

VIVA LA revolution!! How cool would it be if this one win brought a little bit......just a little bit of grass roots back to 4400!

i just drug home another load of DOM  I have seriously considered buying a cheap krx off marketplace and building a chassisisis for it. I would love to run 4900. honestly id love to run any class.
McGrath said in the booth during qualifying he is looking forward to the new Kawi being competitive but "hasnt seen one yet":smokin:

It's an inline 3cyl turbo. DCT Transmission like high end exotic cars, no belt, has manual or auto shift mode, 2 speed transfer case. Everything including the rear diff is one unit. The one i saw on scales on FB had the wiring on it and everything and it was 344lbs.

I think this is largely missed. I think the use case for a KOH car is closer to what they design a stock UTV for than what they design a 3/4 ton truck or corvette for (most common drivetrain "donor"), especially engine/trans wise.

Good time to get it....with the steel/aluminum tariffs coming.

And that was after a 20 minute stop in main pit while I flux cored a weld washer on the passenger lower control arm mount. 🤘🏻

Wow, that's the stock mount!

I'm honestly shocked that they didn't cut all those off and replace them with HD versions for KOH. That would be like #1 on my list of to do's to KOH prep one of those. But that definitely says a lot about the beef of the KRX in stock form. :smokin:

And if it's anything like the X3 drivetrain, is dry sump.

Most everything else is adapted from road vehicles to work offroad (LS, TH400, 9in diff, etc.), the UTV stuff in most cases is a dedicated offroad platform. Between specifically being designed for the environment, not weighing anything, being small and compact, and having parts readily available and aftermarket support, it's hard to find a reason to run anything else imo.

so is cole clarks polaris that puts down 450+ a 4banger or the twin?

That car is probably the most stock stock class car there. I would have loved to have gotten a before picture, it was impressive how oblonged it was.

thats a cool build, any idea what took him out in 4400? I heard wiring is what kept Washburn down in his WOD gayzr

Cole couldn't keep it on 4 wheels and being a single seater, recovery wasn't quick. I don't know if the car actually broke but he didn't finish

3.4/manual/dual Toyota cases is NOT a light drivetrain!

Just key board building a light bomber race car here....
2.0LNF Ecotec (good for 300-400 pretty easy)
super short C4 or 904
Built 300
SF 9" rear. 35 spline shafts. Spool. Light brakes Chromoly housing. Its old tech to have these built at 180lbs wet with brakes. Will it live....not sure.
Spidertrax front 9". 35 spline. spool. light brakes. Chromoly housing.
Single 2.5" shock on each corner.
comp winch with longer strap in winch bag
Chassis......built around that DT. TIGHT.
UTV tires and wheels (i'm ASSUMING they are lighter!! That may be wrong)

With the smaller motor i'd think less cooling is required. So less fluid weigh and cooler space required. Could this car be built race ready around 3,000lbs. Probably but its still a solid axle car. I think it could do well but no one is going to build this car to race KOH.

IFS and IRS or UTV style rear suspension have proven to be faster IMO. Now if Dave keeps making it harder maybe but I still don't see it being built.

NOTE: Dave likes to throw curve balls at the racers. How cool would it be to have a SUPER hard rock crawling "short cut option". Like 80 miles of desert or 3 miles of the baddest of the bad Hammers trails KOH normally doesn't run. Could be fun. LOL

neither is an LS/th400 combo. the question is turner/slawson making the claim that they have a 8 shock bomber lighter than 3500lbs which i think we are all calling BS on.
NOT Apples to apples at all!! But I had a ls (steel block) /700 narrowed HP60's F&R that weighed 3,350 on a certified scale. Buddy had Aluminum LS/4l60 on 9" (SF rear) ST front that was 3,150 on the same certified scale. Aluminum wheels and links. Those are with Fuel, no tools or spares which is how we trail wheeled them. Chassis's were average mine was and is built to be a 4 seat (no rear seat or sheet metal when weighed) and Buddy's was a 3 seat.

Dumb stuff matters with weight. Like battery right by the winch and starter saves a ton on heavy battery cables. Bolts cut the exact right lengths. Thinner materials where you can.

lighter than 3,500 8 shocks race ready would be impressive.....Bombers are known to be light and don't have much to them.
