full access UTV makes some nice looking DIY harness bar tabs that bolt into the cage. Then you just bend up a piece of 1.5” tube and weld it together. I like that better than their harness bracket thing they sell

Looked mostly stock except for the cage and it held up well :laughing:
 
nothing too crazy to update, I have a pile of stuff in the shop for the KRX that I've been trying to chip away at after work every day. working noon to midnight with an hour and a half drive each way is really cutting into my shop time.

1/2" thick Factory UTV skid plate and aluminum transmission plate from Class 1 Motorsports
the class 1 reinforcement kit
motor mount bushings from class 1
Tusk poly rear window
only the best Badlands winch and a mount from amazon
Rugged radio dash mount and antenna mount ( I pulled all the intercom and radio equipment out of my General when it sold)
roll over valve, seat belt bypass, harness bar tabs and a shifter boot from Full Access UTV

to say the least, its been an expensive week. Ill try to get some pics of all the install work. we have a decent ride planned for the 15th and im trying to make sure its all done by then.

Trying to get the winch in tonight and I hit a few snags. The front diff is dangerously close to the drum. Whatever, I can live with that even if I need to unbolt the front diff and slide it back to get the winch in.

Next problem is the passenger side arm hits the winch motor on full droop.

So I guess it’s back to the drawing board on that one. Note for future users, the Harbor freight Apex 5500 lb long drum winch does not fit on a KRX FML

I guess that’s what I get for passing on the $900 Warn that Kawasaki sells for these things

At least I have a new winch to put on my trailer now.

I hate the factory winch position and ended up moving to a front bumper mount.

I ordered the Warn mount and a 4K Smittybuilt from Meyers for about 250 total. I’ll update on the fit. I have had good luck with Smitty winches.
 
I found a new in the box Warn VRX 45s on eBay for $350 shipped so I snatched that up. The Apex winch will end up on my trailer, I already had plans for that anyway so no real loss. The VRX is what comes with the Kawasaki factory kit so I hope it fits.

I was exhausted after work last night but I still got in the shop for a little bit. I replaced the ****ty Rugged connectors with DT style stuff and then started planning out my routes for the cables.

are those 35s? any rubbing? I see lots of posts about 35s and some people say they rub and suck the power right out of an already slow machine. Ive had my eye on those 35x9 Nittos.

I've been thinking 33s for mine, and agree that there's no real reason for width. Haven't really looked yet, though. I do like the tread pattern of the Carnivores, just would want something a bit heavier duty. My wife likes the look of Roxzillas, but I don't know if I want something that single-purpose. Heck, the Carnivores even work out on the dunes.

and those system3s are a true 35 with massive tread depth. I have looked at them extensively but since I plan on spending a good bit of time on the road with this thing i thought the nitto may be a better option. I had 2 sets of tires for my general and swapped them all the time. one set of stickys and one set of BFG all terrains for street use. I found it was a major pain in the ass.

iirc they measured out to just over 34", and the tread depth when new was every bit of 1.5". FWIW I only run those when going to the OHV park in Hot Springs, I stick with my 31" LT's for general trail riding. The 35's are much heavier and you feel it in every aspect, more sluggish on braking, acceleration, cornering... not good for the high speed trail riding we mostly do around here. Also I would not get the System 3 XTR370s again, after going to the OHV park and watching my brother crawl right up stuff I had to pull winch on, I'll be getting Roxxzillas next time. just my .02

Yeah, they're 35" Roxxillas. No rubbing issues at all even with the front swaybar disconnected. I run 32s for normal trail riding and only swap the the 35s on for crawling... they work damn good at the Hot Springs park. The few times I tried normal trails with the big tires I was in low much more than I would have liked.
 
The Warn winch was delivered today and it fits perfect. There’s not much clearance with the upper arm at full droop but it doesn’t touch.

Your KRX is going to be a lot fancier than mine. Did the radiator line insulation bring temps down inside?

When you have 2 identical connectors side by side, try to alternate one male and one female so you can't plug them wrong by mistake.
 
Got the rugged comms finished up and started putting interior pieces back together. Hung the PRP bags. I’ll be finishing up the interior today hopefully and getting the skid plate on then It’s ready to ride Friday. If I have time I’ll get the PRP limit straps on there as well.

Really want some rugged radios. Been looking at them and went looking to see if anyone made something similar. Are they about the only player in that game?
 
Rugged, PCI and UTV comm seem to be the biggest players. I picked rugged for the AlphaBase headsets that make the music quality pretty good. On the other hand I’ve spent a bunch of money on accessories from rugged that I think should come in their “kits”. I will say that if you’re going to go with rugged call them. When we put the comms in my buddies RZR they were able to upgrade him from the cheaper intercom to the 696 for the price of the cheaper one. They always have overstock and last years models on sale.
 
I will say that it makes the riding so much better especially for my girlfriend. We can actually talk and don’t have to listen to the engine screaming or the wind noise. Also the whole holler doesn’t have to listen to your music which is a nice benefit. Overall I’m very happy I pulled the trigger. The radio part of it is only worth it if other people in the group also have one. I’ve got a couple handhelds I pass out when we have big groups. The radios make a big difference when navigating. You spend less time standing around with a map. For example my last trip to Hatfield McCoy had 4 UTVs and 3 dirt bikes. I planned the route out a couple days before and I had a list of trail numbers. Since the bikes move a lot faster I would give them 3 trail numbers and what direction to turn then we could meet them at an intersection and I’d give them 3 more. One of the bikes had a handheld with a mic and he would call out oncoming traffic for us.
 
NEVERLIFT saves the day again by helping me put the Factory UTV 1/2” skid plate on. Complete with the Class 1 Motorsports aluminum transmission guard. Overall it turned out pretty good. The 1/4” self tapping bolts are kind of bull**** though. I wish they were all bolt with a nut ontop.

Less exciting updates today. Spent some time watching NEVERLIFT prep his rzr and fix a couple little things. I did manage to get a wireless charging phone mount setup and working. I was using a suction cup one on the windshield but had to add one of the girlfriends hair ties to it to keep the phone in when things got rough. This one seems much better. I like having the phone mounted so I can use it for gps navigation. It came with a bunch of mounts for handlebars but it had a 17mm ball on the back of the mount it self. I picked up a 17mm to 1” ball, a short 1” arm and a 1” base all metal parts that look identical to the Ram Mounts stuff I’ve purchased in the past.
