I can't find a thread on hypothetical building but I thought there was one out there.

My buddies 1999 psd 4x4 super duty that was stolen awhile back and never did any of the paperwork. I bought the truck cheap for the parts (it still runs and drives).

I've been looking for a 75 and earlier ford crew cab to put on the chassis but trying to find one for the right price isn't going to happen.

Now I've come across this and its got me thinking of putting this body on the SD chassis.

Just wondering who else is dreaming out there.

I dream everyday. I had purchased two 99 f250s. One rolled and one rotted out. I also had a 1966 IH Travelette. The wheelbase matched. Kids, house and putting food on the table led to selling everything. And that’s ok.

A friend actually took the two trucks and made a drivable 99 f250 out of the rolled truck, somehow without a branded ***le. Not sure who screwed up there.

I think I enjoy bench building and gathering the parts as much as the actual building.

I inevitably sell all the parts I gathered for my bench building ideas.

Find a ford b100 instead.... and then sell it to me for pennies on the dollar once its finished. Thats my random dream build

With my E350 tow rig being down. I have been dreaming of the backup tow rig I want to build. I think it'll also be the vehicle my son drives when he gets his license. I plan to start this build in 5-8 years.

3/4 ton
gas big block (8.1L, 6.8L V10, or 7.3L Godzilla) (diesel maintenance is a PITA)
regular cab (he doesn't need to be hauling his friends around)
8-10ft dump flatbed (I'd find that useful, and if he wants he can make some money hauling junk)
37s
Front Dana 60 (WFO kit if I find an 8.1L I can't refuse)

I do too much dreaming. :homer:

But I will give you a word of warning; in Calif, they consider the chassis the vehicle and not the body.:shaking: I was told that a 75 Civic on a 90s Samari is considered a 90s Samari.

But along similar vein to your thought, I was considering tracking down a 75 or earlier 'smaller' SUV body(big blazer or similar) and a 97 or earlier regular cab/short bed diesel chassis and mating the two for a smog test exempt tow rig in Calif. This avoids all the extra 'fees' of owning a truck with the 'legit' tow capacity of a truck. I don't have my notes but I found something close with the ~110 WB of the smaller SUVs.

Quite a few. Most are just day dreams.

YJ with an 8.8 rear, 1.3/2.0 ecoboost, some truetacs, and 33" ATs to use as a small, lightweight, and fun daily. May get linked, may not.

J10 or other 70s or 80s truck with a 5.3, nv4500, np205, 7.17 Jana 76s, some 38x15.5r15 interco STS's and use it as an around town and beach truck. Ditch the doors and probably most of the roof. Maybe a tray bed with wooden sides and floor. Maybe link it as well.

As for dreams, a solid axle U4 that sees how far it can push the technology envelope, a modern awd version of Ivan Stewart's trophy truck, a rotary powered 4ws moon buggy. But Florida doesn't have have rocks or anywhere to go fast offroad, and thus they are just dreams.

Rough looking full size Cherokee, worked over 6.0 ls, excessive turbo, 6 speed manual, no lift, sway bars, suspension mods, 18" aluminum slot wheels. Something way faster than it should be, with a hint of decent handling. One of these days...

fwiw on calif. dmv and body swaps.....

At one time the burden of proof was on the builder, then it was the newest part (engine or body) then it was what does it mostly look like, then we have California writing 1-5000 laws annually. At this point who knows what the law reads???
We did just have a thread on this subject somewhere.....
So today the best guess of I.B.B. is totally a crapshoot....

'71 Scout 800B in forest green, on bronco chassis, 2.3 ecoboost, 7 speed manual. Make sure to add A/C and nice bucket seats to make it a nice daily. Put it on 33's or so.

oh man

1st is a 1960ish c600 ford cabover with 05+ ford axles, ramp truck/flat bed or service bed, or anything that can tow really, diesel 4wd

2nd is 1985ish f250 ford bullnose single cab or 4 door TTB 4wd desert truck, v8 gas motor

3rd is 1985ish f250/350 single cab rock crawler, 05+ ford axles maybe build it with a big flat bed and volunteer for trail maintenance stuff

 ive been wanting/waiting for a good deal on some of these just to buy and save for later

i forgot i have my other dream build that im neglecting which is my 02 f350 with v10 and 6 speed, not sure what the future holds for that but i want to do something with it

B2 body on a shortened 1st gen expedition chassis. Have both the b2 shell chassis and complete expy

29 model a roadster pickup, hidden rear engine & transaxle have most of that.

2 frame rails, engine & transaxle, 2 p side offset axles handlebars and a seat. Have the engine & trans, axles are in a junkyard in pa.

Want to build a square crewcab ranger on a 2003 navigator chassis, have nothing for it.

Have an m90 to put on my 89 2.3 ranger. Bought an ecu & some aluminum to make an intake adapter. Need to rebuild the trans first.

95ish brolite ranger, needs the battery cables i bought 3 years ago to be installed, some shocks. Once I do that I think I’m gonna take it to my friends farm for his boy to beat on.

DD 01 accord needs some maintenance and a 4sale sign.

95 cutlass supreme needs a trans rebuild and a 4sale sign.

98 v70 needs a lot of love to be new DD

I doubt I have 5k sunk into all the above, rather look at the pile of junk than some more worthless each day paper.

I've got a closed knuckle 8-lug D44 and motorhome D70 and D24 divorced transfer case that are waiting for a 1930s Dodge pickup truck to come along at the right price.

I want to get an '05+ Superduty rolling chassis and just slice, dice and weld until it fits "perfectly" under an RBV and then go do dumb BDL ****.

I too have thought about this. Use the engine and trans from the mazda, then to a zuk transfer case. toyota steer axles at both ends, single seat with the shifter between your legs. Minimal cage work.
I figured use a powerglide, and probably a dana 300. The entire package would be 12 inches tall and real short. Axles would be flipped 7.17 dana 60s, Jana 76s or if the money allows Toyota based portals.

I am at the bench build stage of a 4wd conversion on our van and a Raptor swap on my 2018 F150.

At some point i will combine a rolled/wrecked 2018-2023 F150 5.0/10 speed chassis and dentside or older ford sheetmetsl.

Minni truck chassis ( extra points for quad cab with bobbed bed) .

Small 3-4 cyl diesel, 5 gear ( no slushboxes:flipoff2:) 4 gear atlas, a pair of portaled hi 9 axles hung from a link suspension with 110-120" wheelbase.
