Yacht clubs - dilemma

$1k a piling at the lake
The club is going to buy a barge with a piling driver. That is going to help tremendously.

Other option is to take a mooring ball for $1600 per year. I don't really want to have to dinghy out to the boat all of the time.
What is a mooring ball? An anchor? If your gonna do that why would you pay anything? I have friends that do the dinghy thing all summer. They just come out on weekends. I’ve always thought it was weird. I’m amazed someone doesn’t swim out there and steel the boat.

It's a ball attached to a weight. You attach to the ball instead of dropping anchor. And, you don't as much swing distance as you do with anchor chain.

The DIY option is appealing if you’re into putting in some work and making improvements yourself. It’s definitely rewarding, especially if you enjoy building things like your own floating dock. The downside is dealing with the lack of maintenance from others, but if the social aspect and environment are better, it might be worth it.On a side note, if you ever get a chance to do something like a Formula 1 yacht Abu Dhabi, it’s amazing. We did it once, and it was such a cool experience. Being on the water during the race was unbeatable.
