What's new

WWIII March 1st 2024, Alexis says so

Neighbor told me he has six months of food and water stored in his garage. I asked him if he has any guns, he doesn't "believe" in them. I don't need to store any more food since I can just take his. He'll probably die of anxiety a few days after the power goes out in any case.
There will not be any "laws" to worry about breaking then. Just let the hungry dogs eat him and take his shit. Easy come easy go.

He's a typical upper middle elitist Californian. Votes for the erosion of the country, thinks he's prepared for what he has helped do, but doesn't have any way to defend himself, nor the will to defend himself if things go to shit. He thinks the neighborhood of his like minded idiots will band together, but there is no one left here to bother defending. It would be a loot and scoot situation for me.

Should ask AI given the information it has been fed, how likely is WWIII, how is it most likely to be started and when.

I don't think we will have a WW3. A world War with modern weapons would be over too soon. The warmongering democrats wouldn't make enough money before it ended. Endless wars with countries that don't stand a chance in hell of being held due to religious beliefs are the real money makers.

It's possible WWIII happens without nuclear weapons, or limited use, but it's unlikely... Long term anyway. It could easily start out with conventional, but once battle gets to a certain point, the temptation to use at least tactical nukes to retake lost initiative will be too strong. Once tactical nukes are used, it will be tit for tat right back to the theoretical stalemate that caused their use in the first place.

Then, it's an interesting choice... Sue for peace and the status quo antebellum, or double down and go for broke with strategic weapons... At which point its game over for probably the most of the planet.

Red Storm Rising and 2034 are both good fiction novels that cover this. Red Storm for a conventional war between NATO and Warsaw Pact, 2034 for tactical nuclear between US and China.

Red Storm Rising was written in a different time. We were very strong, so was Russia and NATO. Now we are all weak and China is strong. There is no resolve to win anymore. We really don't have a reason to go to war with either Russia or China. If it wasn't for Putin, we would be allied with Russia, their people are like our Eastern European redneck brothers, and they can't even successfully invade a small country. China would be out of food, oil, equipment, and money within a few weeks of a major clash with the US. Then nukes or peace would be the only options. Of course, with our current leadership, we would probably surrender at the first shot.

I don't disagree. I only mentioned Red Storm Rising because it is a war with modern conventional weapons. As you rightly point out, it was written in a different time with vastly different strengths of adversaries.

I recommend 2034. It's a much more modern novel. Some of it requires suspension of disbelief, but the overall arc of the narrative is pretty solid. Results are perhaps not what one might expect.
