World War II-era bomb explodes at busy international airport

You think over 80 years, it has been dropped from 20k feet, compacted with heavy equipment, had 2 feet of concrete poured on it, run over by thousands of planes, then one day with nothing on top of it ... boom.

Once in a while they still dig one up in the UK or Germany, but I'm not sure I've heard one just going off 80 years later.
There's parts of France you still can't go into because the are still clearing unexploded ordinance, from WWI

things with higher energy states eventually find themselves reverting to lower energy states

like a bottle with compressed gas in it, eventually that gas is going to get out of the bottle
Nature hates abnormalities, it despises them actually. It wants everything back in (pressure)balance.

Anyone know the physics of how it could spontaneously detonate after 80 years?

I have no idea

But maybe if you pulled the hammer on a hundred loaded revolvers and set them on a shelf in a humid environment, occasionally after several decades, things would rust and crumble, sometimes that's a spring, and the hammer goes limp, sometimes it's the tiny little catch on the trigger that's holding the hammer back

I assume it's kinda like that

Here's about France, WWI and the Red Zones that are still dangerous today.

There are still construction workers killed every so often in Germany from unexploded WWII Allied bombs, Great Britain also has a problem with German bombs though there wasn't near as many dropped.

fucking wild man.

the OP, wild shit too.

what i call, a COOL fucking story bro.

How does something like that explode? Chemical reaction? I assume the detonator is corroded as shit after 80 years.... And it was likely faulty to begin with.

anything mechanical can fail. an 80 year hang fire is wild though

:lmao:
Hilarious

Did you make that?

Ex wife's grandfather got shot 13 times on iwo jima, wasn't a dick about it, but made it real clear he wasn't buying toyotas. It didn't help he had to put his right leg on the transmission tunnel of a suburban and drive with his left foot.

So hes also getting a laugh today

My grandfather was in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific. He had some great stories. He was a Chrysler guy until the early 80s when he got disgusted with their quality and bought a Toyota Cressida. He said he forgave the Japanese but not Chrysler :laughing:

Someone is going to get a surprise when they drop a pump....:nuke:

'Unexploded military ordnance' has been washing up on the east coast (Maryland) the last few years, as recent as this past summer, pretty cool.

They do controlled detonations on the beach

Happens all the time at Sandy Hook in NJ it was a test range until the early 20th century. Signs all over the place "do not go off-trail". Hurricane Sandy exposed a ton of it and the EOD guys from NWSE got to blow shit up.

Thinking back I know the signs were there as a kid, I don't recall seeing them recently, but I also haven't been looking for them.

Mother fucker stole my likeness:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

It's uncle baby Billy from righteous gemstones. Probably the best character in a show:lmao:
Bringing this back, thank you. Wife and I watched all the seasons, definitely our style of humor mostly. I was impressed how it had a solid story and really good laughs - anybody got other good recs of similar style shows?
