Win!

I know a lot of you will want this moved to the Fail! thread but for some reason I love this thing. Reminds me of a Tex Avery cartoon depiction of a 59 Cadillac or something. Chinese plug in hybrid with Chevy engine, Maybe Cruze or Spark? Not sure.

Sadly, I like the cadderac better than most the new cars. At least they're copying cool cars and not an 85 K car.......

This is why Chris Farley's cousin is so worried about Chinese cars. Nobody told them that what Americans really wanted was another clone of the corolla to compete against the 25 others.

Off topic but I wonder if GM will get anywhere with the cease and desist letters I'm sure they sent.

I haven't seen the 919 lap. Did you notice the windscreen in this Ford trying to leave the chat down the straight?
I did not notice the windscreen issue, I'll have to watch again.

The 919 Tribute has so much down force and a rock hard suspension, they had to run the tires at a very high pressure. All that adds up to a very rough ride.................and the car is flying.

Red Bull is producing 50 RB17's that claim F1 performance. N/A V10, 15k rpm, 1200hp, less than 900kg weight, active suspension, $5 million dollars, track only.

I like it because it's different. Not just another shapeless blob or slab sided car. Like you said at least they are copying something that was cool, most knock offs are of bad cars anyhow.
I owned and used to commute a 59 cadillac to work... this thing doesn't do it for me.

Reminds me of this

It will never be as cool as a real 59 (or 60 as my preference) Cadillac but its cooler than any Hyundai or Kia, now obviously I know it's probably not goin to be very good in any way but I like that they really went full bore with the styling, not a little bit here or a tiny nod there.

I would bet most of the cars they do try to sell will be the plain jane commuters if they ever do start selling here but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing one or two of these sprinkled in on a dealer full of gray blobs.

From what I read they are using the engines from GM under license so I imagine the styling was already written off? I dunno maybe it's one of those where GM hasn't used the 59 Cadillac styling in so many years they can't really do anything about it.

59 Cadillac
Gawd, this is still burned in my memory: 1986, I had just taken on my first ever loan & paid $2500 for a rough, un-special 6 cyl '65 Mustang.

An old guy down the street (I was his paperboy) got a near-immaculate '59 DeVille (innanep photos, but this color):

About 60k miles, paint needed buff & wax but interior was cherry once he cleaned off the cigarette smoke.

Me: "Wow, nice! How much did you have to give for that?" (He was cool for an old guy so the question didn't offend him)

Him: "2500 bucks."

He'd bought it out of a garage in SF that fit the car like a condom, where it'd been stored for over 10 years. OG owners had passed and their kids needed it gone because because they could rent the garage space for $800 / mo. to some commuter . That was my first introduction to clown-world economics of too-big cities & I knew that wasn't any place I wanted to live.

TL/DR: I seen't one of those unrestored in person when it was 27-28 years old & it was fookin' awesome

I've wanted a '59 like that for a long time. Install a modern V8/trans and update the suspension and brakes.

So for me I always liked the 1960 but obviously 59 is THE year for the Cadillac. My uncles had 1963 and 1964 Fleetwood 75 limo's, they ended up restoring the 64 with the 429 and using a few pieces off the rough 63. If I were ever to get one I would either want a 1960 75 series limo or a hearse\ambulance to turn into a station wagon inside. One of the things that made those cars cool is how each year had differences, one of the things that makes them so hard to restore is each year had differences.

The pipeline needs additional state and federal environmental approvals before construction, which company officials expect to start next year. Environmentalists hope to stop the project over worries that the pipeline could break and spill.

I never understood this as a logical talking point for the opposition.
We're going to continue to consume that oil, and transporting it by pipeline is the safest and most efficient way to do it.

That's because they don't want us using oil. They want us living in shacks and riding rented bicycles.
I know that is the ultimate goal, but oil ain't going away for 50 years anyway, so why make it be transported in less safe methods if your goal is really to protect the environment?

oh wait, cause it's not really about that.

can we just build nukes yet? Are we done with all the interim green energy ****?

I don't see it ever happening. What company is going to sign up for the job knowing it will get shut down again?

If the republicans don't remain in power, anything Trump had a part in will get the axe. Good or bad the dems will kill it. Add in the eco crazies the the dems love and it doesn't stand a chance.

Lets just forget that it's the safest way to transport oil.
