Why is littering so common? Someone help me understand.

Wherever I go, I see litter. Trash, everywhere. It's deep in the deserts when I go wheeling. Offramps. Neighborhoods. Schools. Parks. People just leave their trash behind when there's a trash can no more than 50 feet away. And it's not just "them", as the hammers were absolutely wrecked with empty beer cans and refuse after KOH. I really, genuinely, do not understand why people litter. People don't pick up after their dogs. It's insanely irritating, and I need to understand why people do this.

Because most people are self-centered, lazy aholes.

Same reason they can't push a shopping cart 10 feet to a corral. Or back inside. And they're too stupid to realize it drives the costs up for everyone.

As for the self-centered part...check InstaFacetikbookgramtok.

I miss Iron Eyes Cody, impactful commercial as a kid.

What’s laughable about this. I live on the border of the Navajo Nation. They are the litterers here. It’s a huge problem.

Drove through a couple rez's when we were out west...couldn't believe how much broken glass there is on the shoulders of every road.

Can't stand it. One good thing the Marine Corps instills is 'pack it in, pack it out'....sure, it's a pain in the ass to pack all your trash back into your backpacks and such. But once you're engrained with that mentality, it's hard not to think less of people that don't have it.

I hate smokers for this reason and I know most of you that smoke on here do that shit. No problem flicking those cig butts anywhere despite that it takes fucking forever to decompose....and they tend to pile up where all y'all nasty MF'ers congregate.

Sure, sure... "I don't do that!" :lmao:

99 out of 100 smokers I personally see flick them on the ground without a second thought.

Its everywhere...all over the world. I made a comment about it after watching the last episode of the Grand Tour.

People in general simply suck and don't give a shit. The trails I've rode for 30 plus years didn't used to be bad. Occasionally you might see a beer can or some ass wipe paper. Now that those trails have become popular and campgrounds that cater to the sxs, they look like a fucking dump.

In my area that is off the main drag, I think most of the trash is the result of bears, pickup beds, unsecured dump runs, and trash trucks. I go out in front of my house and pick up maybe five pieces a month along a 600' stretch... the most 'scary' part is cigarette butts. I haven't looked this year yet but last year, the area almost burnt down and people are doing stupid stuff like that.

The main drag trash is some of the above but also a lot of Rubicon traffic from Georgetown.

It pisses me off to no end.

Several years back, when I was coaching high school football, I was following the team bus to a game.

One of our players was eating fast food on the bus, and threw the entire bag out the window.

I lost my shit. Called the head coach who was on the bus and told him to stop the entire bus, and I got on and chewed out the entire team. I could not tell who did it because I was not sure which exact window it came out of and no one confessed to it.

The next Monday the entire team paid for it though. We conditioned the fawk out of them at the end of practice, and then had them all go pick up trash around the school.

Dont see much if any on the trails in this part of the country, probably because everything is private park and no open land. I keep a trash bag in my rig at all times.

Its all over the backroads here and it pisses me off to no end. This time of year is the worst mainly because the grass is dead and layed over and everything is bare... its just more visible. Take that shit in the house with you when you get out of the vehicle you lazy piece of shit.

It's the same people that leave the shopping cart in an open parking spot 20ft away from the return cart bay.

Lol.

And you live in one of the cleaner areas of the country.

When I moved to west virginia, I daily saw things like kids walking down the sidewalk tossing their candy wrappers on the ground, or folks pulled up at traffic signals rolling down their window and casually dropping their mcdonalds bag onto the street right there in the middle of stopped traffic. It was just endemic. I'm pretty sure that if I said anything to those people they would have honestly been surprised and said something like, "It's trash, what else am I supposed to do with it?"

I must be that one smoker you dont see doing that because I don't EVER throw my butts on the ground or out the window. If I'm outside the head gets flicked off and the butt goes in my back pocket. While driving I always have a bottle or cup with a lid to dispose them in.

What about all the non cigarette butt litter? That's OK with you because a smoker didn't do it? You funny....

Opposite time-

When i was a kid (up until the mid-late 80's) everything in the rural area where i grew up was a dumping ground. All the backroads that had maybe an old unused driveway, open spot into the woods... literally anywhere you could back a truck in out of direct sight had junk. Not garbage like the McD's sack or coke bottles and beer cans... but actual junk. Old couches, mattresses, TV's, etc. etc. It was fucking everywhere. Funny thing is there was a dump 5 miles up the road that would take a truck bed full of anything for like $1.

Now it doesnt happen anymore. Ever. Anywhere.

Wherever its is coming from, it is most likely not learning respect and consequences.
"Adult" populations that can't take care of themselves.
Throw away world that doesnt value anything except the next new thing.

Now I'm fucking ranting:mad3:

Boyfriend reminded me last night of our biggest fight to date, him throwing gum out the window of the vehicle. OMFG I have lost my shit. For some reason there are people that don't think used gum is littering.

I bring trash bags with me when we venture onto BLM here. Makes me sad to see so much garbage in the creeks. I cannot not pick up trash.

I learned my lesson on dumping shit in fields.

When I was in HS my mom gave me some cash to take a truck load of stuff to the dump, being a budding entrepreneur I figured I'd pocket the cash and dump the stuff in the local field that accumulated a bunch of shit. (I wouldn't do this now, I was a kid at the time)

It had rained the night before and I got my 2wd dakota stuck in the mud. My buddy and I tried for about an hour, shoving stuff under the tires etc. Finally had to break down and call Grandpa to bring out his 79 F-250 and drag me out. He was old school, his recovery gear was a chain, he about jerked my head off and shot my truck into the pile of shit I just dumped putting a long gouge in my cab.:homer::lmao: Of course word got back to mom and I caught hell about that for years:lmao: That's what we need more of, relentless shaming when you fuck up, rather than all this rehabilitation and forgiveness bullshit.

Mom said it really started by Kleenex advertisement " Dont carry your cold in your pocket"

2020: Carry the cold and germs on a rag strapped to your face.
