Looking at some budget friendly cruisers. I have always been a Harley guy and came from a long line of Harley riders but they honestly are losing their reputation for reliability and comfort especially when buying cheap and looking at some point about 20 years old .

I have been intrigued by some of Yamahas cruisers and some of the other brands . Some of them have massive 1900cc (113ci) air cooled v twins that have great reputation .

In the budget I have would it be best to buy the best harley I can find in my budget or should I eliminate Harley’s from my list and go “metric”?

Love Road Kings but I haven’t had my own bike before so idk what I like either . I used to ride a lot of bikes my uncle had but I was a kid and that was 15 or more years ago .

What do you all ride? What would you suggest?

Look into Honda VTX or Silver Shadow Aero.

VFR does cruising as well as being sporty when called upon.

For longer distance stuff, I like FJR1300 and Concours 1000. Of course there are newer bikes, with more electronics if you so desire...

Goldwing?! Holy crap im in my early 30s stop trying to put me in the grave lol

Im sure the Hondas are great bikes but damn they’re ugly they don’t even try to cover the ugly on the engines IMO.

Honda Shadow Aero, reasonably priced and hold their value pretty good. They also have a surprising amount of accessories available.

Budget friendly can be $3k or $30k
I have a 01 Vstar 1100 classic that I got in 2011
Cheap, been very reliable but has carbs,5spd,no abs
Next bike will be a 09-13 is Electra Gluide

I was interested in the dual sports but the wife found them hideous so I marked that off the list 😂

The big (1500+cc) Kawasaki Vulcans land in that price range often and have a pretty loyal following. Honda Shadow is a good bike too, little ugly though.

Personally, I wouldn't spend money on a cruiser that wasn't a Harley but I don't leave anything stock and I can't stand the look of big radiators and oil coolers on a cruiser.

I’m in the same thought process . I had been looking at the Vulcans , big Yamahas (1900s) and such .

I won’t pick up something goofy with an ugly radiator or oil cooler

Another one you could look at would be the Honda Valkyrie, it's a cruiser based on the Gold Wing so you get the big 6 cylinder power and smooth without the fairing.

You're not getting a Harley for that. Love them or hate them, they hold value better than metric bikes do.

And honestly, I prefer a Harley. They're not fast, they're loud, and contrary to popular belief, they don't fucking leak oil, post Evolution.

Low speed maneuverability is fun once you get the hang of it, and once you learn how to grind the footboards into the road, you can hang with most sport bike riders out there today. Most of those guys can go fast in a straight line, but they choke when the road makes a bend.

And trust me, a Milwaukee vibrator will get you more tail than any other bike out there. :grinpimp:

Plenty of Harley’s out there for 3-5k they’re just 70k miles plus and evo or 88 bikes . Hell I missed out on two 2016 road kings on gov deals this week for 2800…. One needed exhaust other needed a bearing in the transmission ..

There are days where I sure as hell feel older but the general consensus is we aren’t allowed to bitch about that until we’re 40 😆

The goldwings are pretty slick. Fastest couch I've ever ridden. Plenty of power.
