Whats a good cheap 1/4 mile car

Man it really doesn't matter. Find something you like and make it fast. You can make damn near anything fast these days.

Giggle gas is cheap, you just need a trans that will hold up and build around that.

Fly in to Dfw, I’ll pick you up in my rust free Escalade and send you north. Of give me 55k and take my 23/5.0:with the whip stage 2 set up.

My son sent me this yesterday.

Sounds like you just need to steal a cop car. That way you are into it for very little. Toss $5k-$8k at it and enjoy your free car

I'd do a small 2 wheel drive x cab truck like a Toyota or S10 and toss the cooling package in the bed for better weight transfer. A set of caltrac bars and a 9" would make it a hoot with an LS up front.

A full sized 90s Chevy would be sweet too. Lots of companies making race parts for them now. Motion race works just built one this past year that is stone simple and just flat works.

C5 Vette is a decent starting point also. Can be set up to handle and/or be fast in a straight line fairly easily and cheaply because LS and there are a million companies making a million parts for them and everyone and their brother is an LS tuner nowadays.

Buy a fox body mustang roller . Slap any LS with a vs racing turbo and go have fun .

I really like my e46 but it's an awd and every time I put it in the ketchup I rip a CV boot and I'm sure the subframe is not going to hold out much longer.

I've got half an idea to get a gmt800 put a truck Norris cam in it and a 150 shot and have fun. I don't think 4l60e will like that much.

My list of requirements is pretty short. I would like something with a common engine so when nitrous go boom I can drop in another engine easy peasy. RWD is preferred but not required. Nothing compact, I'm 6'4 and want to fit comfortably.

Other than that I'm flexible. Budget wise the cheaper the better I'll drive it on the street year round so nothing collectable.

GMT800, 2500 rcsb 4wd. :flipoff2:
Can cut the frame for 5'8" bed. Comes with 4l85e and 14 bolt. Weight sucks, but weight is cheap. Grind away on anything not structural!

Put good rods in, pistons, gap the rings .035-.040. Good set of heads and a cam.

Add a Holly Terminator x to control nitrous and fuel.

Progressive 300-500hp shot. :smokin:

She'll be good until a solenoid or injector fucks off and runs it lean.

4l60e is dumb. Blowing up stock motors on nitrous is dumb.
Even a lm7 is getting expensive enough around here it's an investment to spend $2k in rods and pistons. Having it live more than a year at a time will be well worth it.
You're not making good power without heads and a cam, so you're buying that or leaving most of your power on the table anyways. :flipoff2:

I had a former coworker, not all that much of a mechanic, but copied another guys build pretty closely, rcsb 4wd 1500, stick bottom end 6.0, worked factory heads, aftermarket cam, fuel rails, etc. Huge turbo, like 100mm plus, built 4l80e.

4l80e in a 1500 makes for torsion bar problems, he ran coil overs, set the truck at 2wd height, the front shafts were inverted, but with limit straps, they'd be flat on launch. Stock shafts and diffs, stock t case, over 1500hp, it all held up, and he would drive it to work once a week with the ac on:laughing:

10s easy

Never seen issues with the torsion bars. Grab a set and crossmember out of a 2500 if needed.
Lots of guys just moved the trans crossmember back and drilled new bolt holes in the frame with no problems doing an 80e swap.

Pickups are a little heavy so you'd have to throw more HP at it $$$. Fox, Fairmont or SN95 is a proven combo. Start light and save a bunch of money on HP

Chevette Diesel meets your needs.
For once I'll agree with you mr broken record. Not exactly a chevette but a close cousin. My brothers current build, 198something Isuzu I-Mark diesel

My hair isn't gray.
neither am I

C5 / C6 Vettes are one of the best bargain all around performance platforms around right now. Are you always this worried about perceived image, I mean to the point where you would not get the vehicle that is just about perfect, a blank canvas ready to be easily built into whichever way you want to go fast?

I daily drive a C8, it is fucking awesome.

Plus, and I must be honest here, I love driving it. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
