She's right. There were no rattles. My wife said it was a water moccasin. I thought it was short and fat.
I would definitely eat it if I had someone to prepare it.
We don't have many venomous snakes here so when we were kids we caught every snake that we saw.As a kid I killed all poisonous snakes with rocks, preferably launched from my sling shot.
Timber Rattler but looks darker than they usually are.
Does look more cottonmouth than rattler.
I came inches from stepping on this spicey fucker while hiking last year. Glanced down at my phone to look at the map and as I looked up, mid step my foot was heading right for him. Did some kind of weird Matrix shit in the air and managed to spin and land past him.

This was on the AT just north/east-ish of Roanoke. I he was just kind of hanging out in a a little sun spot on the trail. He didn't move or rattle until after I had passed himWe were up hiking the AT couple years ago. She was in front, we were plodding along pretty good. Per usual I was half paying attention to what she was saying, and I was full paying attention to her ass.
She dead stopped in the trail and I plowed right into her while she's yelling. Big fat rattler 2\3rds across the trail. Not one single rattle. No movement. It was May, guessing he was cold and lethargic.
Never made a sound until we tried to prompt it to move. Then you could here it rattle a hundred yards away with how quiet the trail was.
I lived in Tucson and never came close to a rattler, even out Surveying. Guess I was just lucky
No, neither jellyfish nor stingrays leave bite marks. That is exactly what he looked like. He might be darker in the pic because burnt. My wife said Cottonmouth and Watermockasin are the same thing.
Edit, When I was at the property this time, I got bit by a jellyfish. Good thing it was before we seen the snake. lol. I have never been bit by a jellyfish before. I was bit on the ankle in 3’ of water. It didn’t feel like anything bit me, just like acid or hot water was on my ankle. I didn’t see anything, but it had to be a jellyfish I guess. We have stingrays around there, but wouldn’t they leave a bit mark?
